Job summary

NHS Jobs in Peterborough invites applications for a post holder to assist the Lead Dosimetrist in providing the radiotherapy treatment planning service under supervision of the Principal Physicist. You will work with Pre-Treatment Therapy Radiographers and support all planning activities.

We perform RapidArc planning for suitable sites, daily online IGRT, and contribute to research and national clinical trials. Flexible working hours are available.

Qualifications

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physics of ionising radiation with application to radiotherapy treatment planning.
  • Experience with planning software and complex treatment techniques.
  • Familiarity with IR(ME)R 2017 and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • The production of highly complex computer based external beam radiotherapy treatment plans for individual patients within clinical and waiting time constraints.
  • Supervision of junior dosimetry staff and radiographers working in the treatment planning area.
  • Liaison with clinicians, physicists, therapy radiographers and technical staff to ensure a seamless production and transfer of treatment planning data.
  • Provision of highly complex clinical technical advice to Oncology clinicians and radiographers for complex, multifactorial problems directly impacting patients' treatments.

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for assisting the Lead Dosimetrist in the provision of the radiotherapy treatment planning service under the scientific supervision of the Principal Physicist - Head of Treatment Planning and in conjunction with Pre-Treatment Therapy Radiographers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support in all areas of treatment planning.

RapidArc is utilised for all suitable clinical sites, as is routine daily online IGRT (including thorax 4DCT and DIBH breast). Our department has been paperless from the beginning. As well as providing top-class service to our patients, we are actively involved in research and development projects and national clinical trials. We are commissioned to deliver SABR for lung and oligometastatic disease.

Qualifications
  • Qualified Clinical Technologist or Therapy Radiographer with VRCT or HCPC registration
  • BSc Degree in Radiography, Radiotherapy Physics, or equivalent level of knowledge
  • MSc Degree in Radiography, Radiotherapy Physics, or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Experience of publishing or presenting scientific work
Experience
  • Experience in the use of specialist software for the planning of very complex, patient-critical radiotherapy
  • Experience of advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, and IGRT
Skills/Knowledge
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physics of ionising radiation with specific application to radiotherapy treatment planning
  • Extensive knowledge of the techniques employed to produce and check radiotherapy treatment plansKnowledge and understanding of IR(ME)R 2017
