Job summary

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Radiotherapy Physics Dosimetrist to join the dosimetry team within the radiotherapy and proton therapy physics services. The role requires state registration and proficiency in treatment planning, with hybrid working and strong communication skills.

The successful candidate will produce photon and proton treatment plans for complex cases and participate in multidisciplinary discussions to optimise patient care.

Radiotherapy Physics Dosimetrist

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Planning Radiographer/Dosimetrist to join the UCLH dosimetry team as part of the radiotherapy and proton therapy physics team.

Applicants should be State registered or equivalent. Experience of treatment planning using Varian Eclipse planning system is desirable. The successful applicant will join a growing team of dosimetrists liaising closely with physics, clinical and radiographic staff in the provision of radiotherapy and proton therapy physics services.

The ability to work and communicate effectively with minimum supervision is essential.Candidates must have a clinical background with good knowledge of relevant anatomy, physiology, and pathology. As the dosimetry team is hybrid working, a good understanding of using Microsoft Teams is also an essential requirement for this position.

Main duties of the job

The dosimetry team will be expected to produce photon and proton treatment plans for the UCLH casemix, including treatment complex sarcoma, head and neck, neurological and paediatric cancers.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary discussions in order to produce the best treatment options for the patient.

The postholder will support the Senior dosimetrist in ensuring treatment planning pathways are delivered in a timely fashion across the radiotherapy and proton therapy services.

The postholder will support the development of new and existing techniques including production of the standard operating procedures and training competencies for staff

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

• Honours degree in relevant subject or evidence of equivalent knowledge [e.g. BSc in radiography or DCR(T), BSc or graduate diploma in healthcare science (Radiotherapy Physics)]
• State registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer, or Register of Clinical Technologists
• Specialist knowledge of treatment planning and the implication of patient positioning on dose received
• Broad understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiotherapy planning and treatment
• Progress towards higher degree in a relevant subject [e.g. MSc modules completed in Radiotherapy]

Experience

• Broad knowledge and experience across the range of working procedures and practices in radiotherapy
• Specialised experience of working in treatment planning and radiation dosimetry
• Specialist training in treatment planning techniques
• Experience with Varian Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA oncology management system
• Experience with Varian Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA oncology management system
