We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking Band 7 Radiology Team Lead to join our general Radiology Department. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic radiographer to provide professional, clinical, and operational leadership within a busy plain film service.

As the Plain Film Team Lead, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the plain film department, ensuring the delivery of a safe, effective, and high-quality imaging service. You will lead a team of radiographers promoting excellence in patient care, service improvement, workforce development, and clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

The Plain Film Lead Radiographer will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership for the General Radiography (Plain Film) service, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, safe and efficient imaging service.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and managing the day-to-day operation of the Plain Film service across designated areas.
• Supervising, supporting and developing radiographers, assistant practitioners and support staff.
• Ensuring high standards of patient care, radiation safety and image quality are maintained at all times.
• Coordinating staffing, workload management and service delivery to meet departmental performance targets.
• Contributing to appraisal, performance management and workforce planning processes.
• Supporting education, training and professional development of staff and students within the department.
• Monitoring and improving clinical practice through audit, quality improvement initiatives and implementation of evidence-based practice.
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory and Trust policies and procedures.
• Working collaboratively with radiologists, clinicians, operational managers and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient pathways and service efficiency.
• Maintaining a clinical role within the Plain Film service and acting as a role model for professional practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Plain Film Lead Radiographer is responsible for providing professional, clinical and operational leadership for the General Radiography service.

Provide visible clinical leadership within the Plain Film service, acting as a role model for professional practice.

Maintain advanced clinical competence and undertake a clinical workload within the Plain Film service as required.

Lead the day-to-day operational management of the Plain Film service, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.

Coordinate staffing levels, skill mix and service provision to meet clinical demand and performance targets.

Manage workflow and patient throughput to minimise waiting times and maximise departmental capacity.

Line manage designated staff within the Plain Film service.

Undertake induction, appraisal, performance reviews and attendance management in accordance with Trust policies.

Ensure compliance with HCPC standards, SOR guidance, IR(ME)R, IRR17 and Trust governance requirements.

Lead quality assurance programmes within the Plain Film service.

Monitor image quality and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Lead and participate in clinical audits, service evaluations and quality improvement initiatives.

Actively contribute to the strategic development of the Radiology Directorate.

Identify opportunities to improve patient pathways, productivity and service quality.

Person specification

Qualifications

• MSc, BSc Diagnostic Radiography or relevant diploma
• HCPC Registration
• Relevant postgraduate training or specialist courses in radiography practice

Experience

• Significant post-registration experience within a General Radiography/Plain Film
• Previous experience at Band 6 senior level or equivalent.

It is the policy of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost for their DBS certificate. New Starters – Probationary Period

For any new employees commencing employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, you will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.
