Job summary

Probe UK in Wolverhampton is seeking a graduate or early-career R&D Engineer to join a forward-thinking manufacturing environment. The role covers hands-on machining, lab work, and trials across sustainable material technology and recycling equipment.

You will work standard days (08:30-17:00), with potential progression to supervision as the business grows. The package includes £30,000–£35,000, 33 days holiday, pension, sick pay, and provided PPE and tools.

Qualifications

• Graduate or R&D Engineer with a degree in materials, mechanical engineering or similar (advantageous).
• Manufacturing background with machining experience (advantageous).
• Hands-on and self-starter with good problem-solving abilities.
• Computer literate; CNC experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with sustainable material technology development and recovery trials.
• Run pilot-scale recycling equipment and perform sample preparations on various manufacturing machinery.
• Conduct material testing (mechanical and chemical) and maintain data logs.
• Maintain lab spaces and documentation to support projects.

My client is looking for a hands-on self-starter to work on external and internal projects involving hands-on manufacturing and machinery operation. This role also has the potential to move into a supervisory role as the company progresses.

R&D Engineer Duties

• Days. (08:30-17:00)
• Support sustainable material technology.
• Recovery trials.
• Run pilot scale recycling equipment.
• Sample preparations using different types of manufacturing machinery.
• Material testing. (Mechanical and chemical testing).
• Keeping data logs and documentation.
• Lab maintenance.

R&D Engineer Requirements

• Being a graduate with a degree in materials, mechanical engineering or similar (Advantageous)
• Come from manufacturing background with machining experience or similar (Advantageous).
