Job summary

PepsiCo R&D in Leicester is seeking an R&D Analytical Laboratory Chemist for a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will join the Measurement Sciences team, performing analytical testing related to food safety and developing/validating methods to build in-house capability.

You will also support method development, arrange testing schedules, and ensure data is reported in line with PepsiCo procedures. The role requires strong analytical skills, LC-MS/GC-MS experience and knowledge of ISO17025

Qualifications

  • Degree or Master’s Degree in Chemistry or closely related subject.
  • Advanced knowledge or relevant industrial experience in the development and application of GC-MS and/or LC-MS.
  • At least 2–3 years’ experience in industry.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
  • Demonstrate competent use of laboratory business information and reporting systems (LIMS).
  • Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, flexible and adaptable.
  • Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions and demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Good organizational, time-management and teamwork skills.
  • Good technical, communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support analytical testing activities on food safety related issues, building knowledge on methods and capabilities.
  • Execute method development and conduct validation studies against specified business criteria using GC-MS or LC-MS instrumentation.
  • Support the day-to-day execution of testing programs, prioritising testing schedule for regulatory samples, new product development samples and continuity projects.
  • Responsible for sample preparation and analysis of core simple and complex testing; support teams on projects/validation.
  • Perform accurate analysis and reporting of analytical samples in line with PepsiCo procedures.
  • Develop reference files, QC charts and graphs on laboratory data.
  • Participate in proficiency testing schemes and follow up results.
  • Present data and findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Book in samples for testing, review results and enter onto LIMs.
  • Ensure stock is managed and ordered to enable smooth workflow.
  • Troubleshoot lab equipment and carry out maintenance as required.
  • Calibrate and maintain equipment schedules for relevant instrumentation.
  • Train new technicians to PepsiCo standards.
  • Work with Quality Manager to ensure ISO17025 and QMS compliance.

Overview

PepsiCo R&D is looking for R&D Analytical Laboratory Chemist to join on 12 months Fixed Term Contract and be based in Leicester.

Job Purpose

In this role you will be part of Measurement Sciences team, working within the R&D analytical laboratory at Beaumont Park. The role is responsible for providing critical analytical testing on analyses related to food safety. The primary focus of the role will be to support analytical testing within the Measurement Sciences team, as well as provide technical support and troubleshooting. Potential development and validation of new methods to build in-house capability, may be a requirement.

Responsibilities
  • Support analytical testing activities on food safety related issues, building knowledge on methods and capabilities.
  • Execute method development and conduct validation studies against specified business criteria using GC-MS or LC-MS instrumentation.
  • Support the day-to-day execution of testing programs, assisting management and prioritization of the testing schedule for regulatory program samples, new product development samples and business continuity projects.
  • Responsible for the sample preparation and analysis of core simple, core complex testing and samples for field support. Support teams on projects/validation by providing the necessary analysis required.
  • Perform accurate analysis and reporting of analytical samples in compliance with PepsiCo Global procedures and standards within agreed timelines.
  • Develops reference files, quality control charts and graphs on laboratory data.
  • Participate and demonstrate competency in proficiency testing schemes and ensure adequate follow up to the results recovered.
  • Present data and findings in a coherent and concise manner to various stakeholders.
  • Booking in of samples for analytical testing, reviewing of test results and entry onto LIMs.
  • Ensure that all required stock is managed and ordered in a timely manner to enable smooth flow of workload.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues relating to laboratory analysis, carrying out maintenance as required.
  • Responsibility for equipment calibration and maintenance schedule for the lab on instrumentation associated with relevant analyses.
  • Training all new technicians in accordance to PepsiCo standards.
  • Work with Quality Manager to ensure compliance to Quality Management System, as well as ISO17025 requirements and accreditation body requirements.
  • Capture internal and partner feedback and maintain complaints log, highlighting any outcomes to team or leadership as appropriate.
  • Support program leads with regards to testing requirements, appropriate / approved external laboratories and the review and reporting of results.
  • Demonstrate adherence to site Health & Safety and Good Laboratory Practice policies and procedures. Support specific lab activities such as COSHH assessments, permit writers and others as needed.
