Job summary

The Quantum Algorithms Team Lead will lead and mentor a team of engineers that undertake theoretical and applied work on quantum algorithms development, benchmarking, verification and error correction at the National Quantum Computing Centre in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

You will establish and grow a multidisciplinary team, promote a positive culture, and travel for international meetings to advance the UK quantum mission.

Qualifications

• PhD level (or equivalent) in quantum computing, quantum information, physics, mathematics or computer science.
• Experience with quantum algorithms development and related processes (benchmarking, verification, error correction).
• Proven ability to lead research projects and teams with measurable outcomes.
• Familiarity with development workflows and tools for quantum computing applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team delivering quantum algorithms for quantum and hybrid workflows.
• Define and drive the team’s research strategy and lifecycle workflows.
• Oversee benchmarking, verification, error correction and deployment on processors or emulators.
• Act as technical authority to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate across teams and international partners, aligning with national strategy.
