Job summary

ESD Recruitment's client, a long-established contractor in the aggregates, civil engineering and infrastructure sectors, is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team in the South East UK.

You will oversee the commercial management of multiple projects from tender through final account, prepare budgets and forecasts, procure subcontractors, submit interim valuations and manage subcontractor payments. Strong NEC/JCT knowledge and a full UK driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction/civil engineering/aggregates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple projects from tender to final account.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets and forecasts.
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers and manage payments.
  • Prepare interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Produce cost reports and updates for senior management.
  • Ensure projects stay within budget and contract compliance.
  • Support tendering and pricing of new works.

Job description

Our client is a long-established and highly respected contractor specialising in materials processing, earthworks, bulk material handling and specialist plant operations across the UK. Working within the aggregates, quarrying, recycling and civil engineering sectors, they deliver complex projects for some of the country's leading infrastructure, construction and industrial organisations.

With over 20 years of industry experience, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering projects safely, sustainably and to the highest standards. Continued growth has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple projects from tender through to final account. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor looking to join a stable and growing business with long-term career prospects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets and forecasts.
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations.
  • Manage subcontractor payments and final accounts.
  • Identify and manage variations, change control and compensation events.
  • Produce accurate cost reports and commercial updates for senior management.
  • Monitor project profitability and identify opportunities to improve commercial performance.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Assist with tendering and pricing of new works.
  • Ensure contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, civil engineering, earthworks, infrastructure, aggregates, highways or heavy plant.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple live projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
