Job summary

Allscreens Nationwide Ltd. is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support commercial delivery across the UK for a varied civil engineering and specialist services portfolio. The role is based from the Attleborough office with occasional travel to sites and client meetings.

You will manage commercial aspects from tender through final account, working with clients, subcontractors and internal teams, across pre- and post-contract stages.

Qualifications

• 1+ year UK Quantity Surveying experience in construction or civil engineering.
• Experience using NEC and/or JCT contracts.
• Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.
• Good IT and Microsoft Office skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Job description

An established civil engineering business is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of a varied portfolio of civil engineering and specialist services projects across the UK.

Based from the company's Attleborough office, this is a predominantly office-based role with occasional travel to sites and client meetings when required. You will work closely with the operational and technical teams, taking responsibility for the commercial management of multiple projects from tender through to final account.

The Role

The successful Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for ensuring projects remain commercially controlled, contractually compliant and financially successful. You will have involvement across both pre-contract and post-contract stages, working with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial aspects of projects valued between £10k and £5m.
• Review and interpret contract documentation, terms and conditions.
• Ensure subcontract arrangements are commercially and contractually compliant.
• Track project progress and maintain accurate records to support valuations and measurement.
• Identify changes to scope and manage variations, early warnings and compensation events.
• Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment.
• Negotiate valuations and payment positions with client QSs and Commercial Managers.
• Monitor payment notices, invoicing and outstanding monies.
• Manage project expenditure against agreed budgets and forecasts.
• Manage the release of retention and support final account settlement.
• Obtain, review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Assist with tendering, pricing and the preparation of Bills of Quantities.
• Work closely with the Technical Team on bid and pre-award activities.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Look for opportunities to improve margins and reduce project costs.

About You

We are looking for a commercially aware Quantity Surveyor who is confident working across multiple projects and can build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.

You should have:

• At least 1 year's UK Quantity Surveying experience within construction or civil engineering.
• Experience working with NEC and/or JCT contracts.
• A good understanding of UK construction contracts and payment legislation.
• Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.
• Good IT and Microsoft Office skills.
• The ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• A full UK driving licence.
