Job summary

Thorn Baker Group is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage project costs and commercial aspects across multiple sites in Gloucestershire and Reading. The role involves procurement, subcontractor management, monthly valuations, payments, and final accounts, with travel between locations.

You will contribute to cost control, budgeting, and value for money, while maintaining quality and standards. A commercially minded approach and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• HNC in Surveying or equivalent (desirable).
• Experience in construction industry, ideally with a specialist subcontractor.
• Excellent IT, analytical and communication skills.
• Strong numerical ability and cost interpretation.
• Ability to interpret and analyse commercial information.
• Good business awareness and commercial acumen.
• Experience in budget management and cost control.
• Proactive approach with enthusiasm.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong teamwork and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and submitting monthly valuations.
• Producing and maintaining cash flow forecasts.
• Negotiating variations and agreeing final accounts.
• Preparing and issuing tender packages for subcontractor work packages.
• Reviewing, analysing and negotiating subcontractor tender returns.
• Producing detailed tender analysis for subcontract packages.
• Preparing and administering subcontract orders and variations.
• Managing subcontractor payments, variations and final accounts.
• Completing monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
• Monitoring project budgets and maintaining cost control.
• Attending site visits and project meetings.
• Working with the project team to achieve commercial targets.
