Job summary

Rogers McHugh Recruitment is seeking a Quantity Surveyor with a background in fit out and F&B projects to join a growing team. You will manage cost control, valuations and subcontractor coordination on live schemes.

The role is office-based most days (Mon-Wed) with optional home-working on Thursday and Friday, offering a good balance between team collaboration and flexibility.

Projects are typically up to £500k, salary £40k–£50k, plus 25 days annual leave and bank holidays.

About you

You are probably at the stage of your career where you have built a solid foundation as a Quantity Surveyor and now want a role where you can take on more responsibility, work on interesting projects and continue developing your commercial skills.

You will ideally have a 2:1 degree and around 2 to 3 years of post university experience. More importantly, you will have experience within the fit out sector and understand the pace that comes with delivering fast moving commercial and F&B projects.

You will be comfortable working across multiple projects, dealing with different stakeholders and getting involved in the detail. Experience working on projects involving MEP would also be important, as this is a regular part of the schemes you will be involved with.

Your experience

You will have experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a fit out contractor or similar construction environment. You will understand the commercial side of delivering projects and have a good grounding across cost control, valuations, variations, subcontractor management and commercial reporting.

The projects you will be working on are generally valued up to around £500k, so this would suit someone who has already had exposure to projects of this scale and is ready to take the next step in their development.

You will also be used to working on several projects at the same time. Typically, you will look after around 2 or 3 live projects, giving you plenty of variety without taking you away from the detail of each scheme.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will take commercial responsibility for a number of live fit out and F&B projects, working closely with the operational team to make sure each project is delivered successfully and remains commercially controlled.

You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, managing costs, valuations, variations, subcontractors and commercial reporting. You will also work closely with project managers, site teams, clients and subcontractors to keep projects moving and deal with commercial issues as they arise.

The business has a strong repeat client base, so this is not a role where you will spend your time constantly pricing traditional tenders. Instead, you will be joining a team delivering work for clients who already know and trust the business.

The role is predominantly office based, with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday spent in the office. You can work from home on Thursday and Friday if that suits you, giving you a good balance between being around the team and having flexibility in your week.

About the business

You will be joining an established construction and fit out contractor with a turnover of around £13m. They deliver projects nationwide, with a particular focus on fit out and food and beverage schemes.

The business has a strong reputation for repeat work, which gives you the opportunity to work on a consistent pipeline of projects rather than relying heavily on traditional tendering.

The salary is between £40,000 and £50,000 depending on your experience, alongside 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
