This opportunity would suit a Quantity Surveyor with a solid foundation in pre- and post-contract cost management who is ready to take greater ownership of project delivery within a consultancy environment.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager, you will provide cost management and commercial services throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, contractors, consultants and wider project teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting procurement strategies, tender processes, tender analysis and contractor recommendations.

  • Managing project costs during construction, including valuations, forecasting, change control and financial reporting.

  • Monitoring project budgets, identifying cost risks and opportunities, and recommending appropriate mitigation measures.

  • Providing commercial advice and supporting contract administration under JCT, NEC and other relevant forms of contract.

  • Monitoring project changes, managing final accounts and supporting fee management and invoicing.

  • Attending client, consultant and contractor meetings, providing clear commercial updates and helping resolve project issues.

  • Developing strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders to support successful project delivery and repeat business.

  • Working collaboratively with project managers, building surveyors, engineers, designers and other technical specialists.

  • Contributing to bids, proposals and business development activities.

  • Supporting graduates and junior colleagues while continuing to develop your own technical and commercial expertise.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:

  • Experience delivering quantity surveying or cost management services within a consultancy, client-side or contractor environment.

  • Experience working across one or more built environment sectors, such as commercial, healthcare, education, residential, public sector or mixed-use developments.

  • A good understanding of both pre-contract and post-contract cost management.

  • Practical experience preparing cost plans, estimates, tender documentation and commercial reports.

  • Working knowledge of UK construction contracts, particularly JCT and/or NEC.

  • Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills, with excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to communicate cost information clearly and provide effective commercial advice.

  • Confident communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and project teams.

  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • The confidence to take ownership of allocated responsibilities while working collaboratively with senior colleagues.

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.

  • MRICS chartership or be approaching professional qualification, with a commitment to achieving chartership within approximately six months of appointment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, alongside experience using cost management and measurement software such as CostX or similar platforms.
