Job summary

Hall & Kay in Manchester is seeking a commercial professional to lead financial delivery for diverse projects, from £100k to £4m. You will manage interim payments, final accounts, and budgets, while guiding the project team on variations, notices and contract compliance.

The role demands experience in fire protection/building services, strong contract knowledge, and excellent negotiation and reporting abilities. A dynamic, team‑focused environment offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial role within fire protection or building services.
  • Good base knowledge of standard forms of contract.
  • Proficient in cost control techniques and software.
  • Awareness of dispute resolution procedures and managing disputes.
  • Produce accurate monthly cost and value reports.
  • Able to negotiate with clients and sub-contractors.
  • Experience on final accounts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Holds a Quantity Surveying degree or currently pursuing one.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and regulations relevant to Fire Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Agree interim payment amounts with clients and monitor payments.
  • Negotiate final accounts and monitor cost projections monthly.
  • Prepare project budgets with Sales/Project Manager as needed.
  • Monitor budgets against costs and report to management monthly.
  • Assist with final accounts of troublesome subcontractors.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled across projects.
  • Work with project team on variations, delays, etc., and record them.
  • Prepare contractual notices with Project Manager and Directors.
  • Attend site visits for variations and quality checks as needed.
  • Attend client meetings and tender stage reviews with Sales.
  • Build relationships with clients, consultants and colleagues.
  • Mentor junior team members when required.

Job description

Summary of Role

To ensure the successful financial delivery and completion of projects, protecting the exposure of the Company to financial risks, together with adherence of the commercial procedures of the Business. With the expanding growth within our Manchester office, the successful applicant will be responsible for the commercial management of a variety of different sized projects, offering commercial expertise for both our main contracts and small works divisions, with current project values varying between £100k and £4m.

What you will be doing
  • Agreement of interim payment amounts with clients, monitoring when payments notices are due/received/outstanding.
  • Final Account Negotiations.
  • Preparing project budgets in conjunction with the Sales team and / or Project Manager as and when required.
  • Monitoring budgets against costs and projections on a monthly basis and reporting upline on a monthly basis.
  • Assisting with troublesome subcontractor final accounts.
  • Ensuring that we fulfil all our contractual obligations.
  • Working with Project team and Directors regarding all commercial matters (variations, delays etc.) and ensuring that they are identified and recorded.
  • Assist Project Manager and Directors in the preparation of contractual notices.
  • Attend site visits to monitor for variations and quality matters if required to suit Client needs, whilst ensuring site records are produced and are accurate.
  • Attendance at client meetings as and when needed.
  • In conjunction with our Sales team, tender stage terms and conditions review and input.
  • Maintain good relationships with clients, consultants and colleagues.
  • Mentoring of junior team members where required.
What we will need from you
  • Experience of working in a similar commercial role within the fire protection sector or building services industry (essential).
  • Good base knowledge of standard forms of contract (essential).
  • Proficient in cost control techniques and software applications (essential).
  • Awareness of dispute resolution procedures and experience of managing disputes (essential).

    relevant to the Fire Engineering industry (desirable).
