Job summary

Orion Group is supporting a Highland-based civil engineering business in Inverness-shire to source a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the growing team. The QS/SQS will assist in managing projects, grow the client base and develop opportunities in civil engineering, renewables and road & bridge works while supporting environmental and building works ventures.

The role focuses on commercial activities, contract administration and value management within a busy contracting

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or HND / HNC with relevant experience.
  • Full Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Form part of the construction team for specific contracts.
  • Assist financial and contractual control over the contracts allocated.
  • Undertake the re-measurement of all trades specific to each contract.
  • Prepare interim applications for payment.
  • Value all relevant and valid variations to the contract for inclusion in applications for payment.
  • Prepare and process supplier/sub-contractor payments.
  • Assist the Site Manager placing material orders.
  • Produce correspondence of a contractual nature in consultation with the Commercial Manager.
  • Attend all progress/team meetings as considered necessary.

Job description

Orion Group are supporting a Highland based Civil Engineering business with a long history of delivery projects across the highlands for Tier 1 clients, to source a Quantity or Senior Quantity Surveyor to add to there growing Inverness based team. As the QS / SQS you will be a key member of the team assisting in the management of projects, widening the client base and developing opportunities on a profitable basis to continue to establish the business as a major competitor in civil engineering, renewables and road & bridge works while supporting the development of existing business clients in environmental and building works.

KEY DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Activities:

  • Form part of the construction team for specific contracts.
  • Assist financial and contractual control over the contracts allocated.
  • Undertake the re-measurement of all trades specific to each contract.
  • Prepare interim applications for payment.
  • Value all relevant and valid variations to the contract for inclusion in applications for payment.
  • Prepare and process supplier/sub-contractor payments.
  • Assist the Site Manager placing material orders.

Other duties/ responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining good professional relationships with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors, clients and their representatives.
  • Regularly updating the Director/Commercial Manager of any potential commercial threats and opportunities.
  • Provide any other reasonable duties as requested by the Director/Commercial Manager
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
  • Achievement of UBCivils commercial and operational targets.
  • Provision of accurate financial information.
  • Avoidance of any significant contractual disputes.
  • Relationships with key external and internal business contacts.
KEY COMPETENCES
  • The ability to negotiate terms, conditions and final accounts with sub-contractors, suppliers, clients and/ or their representatives.
  • The ability to financially and contractually control construction projects.
  • Have detailed knowledge of construction techniques and principles.
  • Have detailed knowledge of the industry's most commonly used conditions of contract
  • Good communication skills

  • Full Driving Licenc
