Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to work on an Energy project in the Western Isles. The role will be based at Tornagrain, IV2 7AE until January 2027 and will relocate to Jamestown, IV14 9ED thereafter.

The successful candidate will contribute to commercial reporting, valuations, cost control, procurement schedules and contract administration across EPC projects in the energy transition market. Candidates should have proven commercial experience and be registered with RICS/ICES,

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Commercial role (Assistant QS or QS).
  • Registered with RICS/ICES and working towards chartership.
  • Knowledge of standard forms of contract; NEC preferable with standard methods of measurement

Responsibilities

  • Prepare valuations and applications for payment with full documentation.
  • Control cost reports to the client with contractually compliant documentation.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administer subcontractor and supplier accounts from requisitions to final accounts.
  • Undertake contract administration, including change management and registers.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Measure quantities in accordance with standard methods of measurement.
  • Assist in the preparation of project final accounts.
  • Draft subcontracts including professional services.

Murphy is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyorto work with Energy on onWestern Isles linear cable scheme. The role will be based at Tornagrain, IV2 7AE until January 2027 and will then relocate to Jamestown, IV14 9ED.

A day in the life of a Murphy Quantity Surveyor

  • Aid in the internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.
  • Prepare Valuations/Applications for Payment with full documentation in accordance with the contract
  • Control of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant documentation
  • Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring, and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
  • Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements.
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of project final accounts.
  • Drafting of subcontracts including professional services.

  • Proven experience within a Commercial role i.e., Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, or a similar role.
  • Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
  • Knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract, NEC preferable together with Standard Methods of Measurement
