Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick, part of VolkerWessels UK, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to manage commercial aspects of rail infrastructure renewals in the Southern region. You will work within the Earthworks team to ensure cost control, subcontract management and NEC contract administration.

The role offers opportunities to develop within a high-performing infrastructure business, with a focus on collaboration, bid support and career progression in a leading civil engineering contractor.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
• Strong understanding of NEC contracts, NEC3/NEC4 preferred.
• Proven experience in subcontract management, cost control and commercial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build relationships across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Rail, earthworks or geotechnical project experience desirable.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline; progression toward chartership.

Responsibilities

• Provide commercial management for rail infrastructure projects across the Southern region.
• Manage subcontractor performance, costs and commercial reporting.
• Administer NEC contracts and liaise with project teams and stakeholders.
• Prepare cost forecasts, cash flow analyses and value engineering where needed.

We are currently seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), a collaborative partnership delivering essential rail infrastructure renewals and enhancements across the Southern region. Working within the Earthworks team, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful commercial management of projects that improve the safety, reliability and resilience of the railway network.

About You

We are looking for a proactive, commercially astute professional who thrives in a collaborative project environment and enjoys delivering successful infrastructure schemes.

You Will Ideally Have

• Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
• A strong understanding of NEC contracts, with NEC3 and/or NEC4 experience preferred.
• Proven experience in subcontract management, cost control and commercial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Experience working within rail, earthworks or geotechnical projects (desirable).
• Knowledge of Network Rail standards, procedures and commercial processes (desirable).
• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Progress towards, or achievement of, professional chartership through RICS, ICES or a similar institution.
