Job summary

Adey Steel Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the Contract and Project Management teams with commercial and financial management. You will monitor costs, analyse resources and enhance contract value through effective control, with emphasis on rail division contracts.

Key duties include providing QS support to managers, handling valuations and variations, maintaining cost records, and liaising with purchasing on procurement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction and steel QS, incl. NEC and JCT contracts.
  • CSCS certification preferred.
  • Hold a Quantity Surveying qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide QS support to Contract and Project Managers.
  • Assist in development of contract programmes and reviews.
  • Ensure activity schedules and dates align with contract requirements.
  • Maintain contract financial reports and cost records for review.
  • Administer valuations and pricing of variations.
  • Raise anomalies to Contract/Project Managers and monitor costings.
  • Liaise with purchasing on procurement and price negotiations.
  • Support timely final accounts and inter-department coordination.
  • Understand health and safety implications and attend meetings as required.

Job description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Direct Reports None

Reporting to: Commercial Manager

Job Function:

Support the Contract and Project Management team with all aspects of commercial and financial management. Monitoring, recording an analysing costs and resources and enhancing the value of contracts through effective financial control.Assist with reviews of contracts to mitigating Adey Steel commercial risk through appropriate use of contracts with particular emphasis on providing commercial support to the rail division.

Job Description:
  • Provide QS support and services to the Contract and Project managers.
  • Assist Contract and Project Managers in the application and development of contract programmes.
  • Ensure activity schedules and application dates are understood and followed in line with the contract requirements.
  • Ensure contract reviews and contract financial reports are maintained, are accurate and are available for review by other members of the Adey Steel team.
  • Administer valuations and the pricing of variations.
  • Report to Contract and Project Managers any anomalies on a Client account.
  • Maintain records cost value reconciliations (profit and loss)
  • Development of knowledge relevant to contract conditions.
  • Monitor job costings against quoted figures raising any anomalies with the Contract and Project Managers.
  • Assist Contract and Project Managers with procurement of goods and services, and liaise with the purchasing department.
  • Chase agreement on prices
  • Ensure applications are completed on time with Commercial Manager and Contract/Project Manager
  • Ensure timely completion of all relevant information for Commercial Manager to liaise with Contract Manager on the final account.
  • Liaise with other departments within the Company.
  • Liaise and negotiate with the client and members of the professional team.
  • Understand the implications of the Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Attending meetings, both internally and externally, to support commercial requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience in construction and steel quantity surveying, including NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Ideally CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
  • Hold a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • Excellent Communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Must be well organised with good time management skills.
  • Have an accurate and methodical approach to maintaining financial and commercial information.
  • Basic understanding of the wider construction processes.
  • Good understanding and competency with the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word and Microsoft Projects.
  • Full Driving Licence.
