Job summary

Build Recruitment Limited is partnering with a Tier 1 construction contractor to appoint a Quantity Surveyor for the Building Solutions division on a secured, long-term client project.

The role requires taking commercial responsibility for the project, working with the operational team to maximise profitability, manage the supply chain and mitigate contractual and commercial risk.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction.
  • Main contractor experience is advantageous.
  • Experience on refurbishment/public sector/defence or secured environment projects would help.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial performance of the project from procurement through to completion.
  • Maximise project gross margin and support delivery against budget.
  • Procurement and management of subcontractors, consultants, materials and plant.
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree subcontract packages.
  • Manage variations and change control with clients and the supply chain.
  • Measurement and valuation of works.
  • Prepare and manage subcontractor payments.
  • Support client applications and invoicing.
  • Produce monthly CVRs/VCRs, cashflows and cost forecasts.
  • Prepare and present final cost and value forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, value, cash flow and profitability.
  • Identify contractual, commercial and operational risks and implement mitigation.
  • Support resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, consultants, operational teams and the supply chain.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are understood and fulfilled throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

An established Tier 1 construction contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its growing Building Solutions division, working on a secured project for a key long-term client.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused QS to join a business with a strong pipeline of work across the public sector, defence, secured environments, refurbishment and construction sectors.

The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility for the project, working closely with the operational team to maximise profitability, manage the supply chain and identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risk.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial performance of the project from procurement through to completion

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction
  • Main contractor experience would be advantageous
  • Experience working on refurbishment, public sector, defence or secured environment projects would be beneficial
  • Strong subcontract procurement and supply chain management experience
  • Good understanding of CVRs, forecasting, variations and change control
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Ability to identify and manage commercial risk
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline desirable
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines
