Job summary

Drax Group in Ipswich and London is looking for a Quantitative Analyst to join the Forecasting & Hedging Team. You will develop forecasting models across import (consumption) and export (renewable generation) portfolios and provide data-driven insights to support commercial decisions.

You will apply statistical, machine learning and optimisation techniques, lead code reviews, and deliver automated reporting and visualisations using Python, SQL and Power BI.

Qualifications

  • A quantitative degree and strong analytical skills are required.
  • Experience with Python and SQL is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Power BI or similar visualization tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance forecasting models across import (consumption) and export (renewable generation) portfolios.
  • Research, evaluate and implement statistical, machine learning and optimisation techniques to improve forecast accuracy and commercial value.
  • Lead peer reviews of code, model changes and analytical methodologies, ensuring high standards of quality and best practice.
  • Design and deliver automated reporting, dashboards and visualisations using Python, SQL and Power BI to support portfolio monitoring and informed decision-making.
  • Provide ad-hoc and time-critical quantitative analysis to support Commercial, Renewables, Strategic Sales, Finance and other business areas.
  • Contribute to the development of new forecasting capabilities across power demand, renewable generation, weather, pricing and portfolio optimisation.
  • Build and maintain scalable data processing and automation pipelines to support forecasting and analytical workflows.
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, regulatory changes and emerging analytical techniques relevant to the UK energy market.

About therole:

Who we’relooking for:

To besuccessful in this role you’ll ideally have…

  • Strong quantitative andanalytical skills, supported by a degree in Mathematics, Statistics,Engineering, Physics, Economics or another relevant numerate discipline.
  • A good understanding ofwholesale electricity markets and industry fundamentals, or the ability todevelop this knowledge quickly. Ideally, you’ll have at least two years’experience in a relevant analytical or energy industry role and experienceof using Python & SQL.
  • Strong problem-solving skills,with the ability to use data and modelling techniques to developstructured, practical solutions that deliver commercial value.
  • Excellent communication andstakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complextechnical concepts clearly and work effectively across teams and projects.
