Job summary

Motion Applied are seeking a hands-on Quality Technician to ensure our manufactured products meet customer, regulatory, IPC and internal quality requirements. You will inspect incoming materials, in-process assemblies and finished products, manage non-conforming material and support investigations and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing, quality inspection or production environment.
  • Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and inspection criteria.
  • Practical experience of visual, dimensional and functional inspection.
  • Knowledge of non-conformance control, containment and defect reporting.
  • A good understanding of problem-solving tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone analysis.
  • An NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience in engineering, manufacturing or quality.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out incoming, in-process and final inspections on PCB assemblies, metal assemblies and finished products.
  • Complete visual, dimensional and functional inspections against drawings, specifications, control plans and work instructions.
  • Identify and control non-conforming material, including segregation, labelling and status control.
  • Raise and maintain non-conformance reports, defect records and quality alerts.
  • Support failure analysis and root cause investigations using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone and 8D.
  • Help verify that corrective and preventive actions have been implemented and are effective.
  • Support process, product and layered process audits.
  • Monitor and report quality measures, including defect trends, scrap, rework and first-pass yield.
  • Help ensure measuring and test equipment remains within calibration.
  • Work collaboratively across Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Supplier Quality to resolve issues and maintain standards.

Purpose of the Role

What we’re looking for

  • Knowledge of IPC‑A‑610, IPC J‑STD‑001 or ISO 9001 would be an advantage.

  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and clear communication skills.
