Job summary

Cummins Daventry is seeking an enthusiastic student to join the Quality team for the Plant business unit on-site this Summer 2027. This placement will expose you to how a global manufacturer operates and equip you with tools to power your potential.

You will work independently and with peers on tasks such as production quality, testing, documentation and data analysis using Python and Power BI. You’ll gain hands-on experience in measurement, calibration and working toward a degree in Mechanical

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• Willing to be on-site in Daventry during placement.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Experience with Python, Power BI or data analytics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Production Quality: assist engineers with production and inspection activities.
• Monitor material performance and help maintain consistent quality.
• Identify defects by comparing components to technical specs.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic student to join our team specializing in Quality for our Plant business unit in Daventry. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!

This ON-SITE role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2027. As requirements are to be fully on-site, you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

External Qualifications and Competencies

• Support Production Quality: Assist Engineers with production and inspection activities to ensure components and materials meet required standards.
• Monitor Material Performance: Observe material behaviour in processing plants and help make adjustments to maintain consistent quality.
• Identify Defects: Compare physical characteristics of components and products against technical specifications to spot issues early.
• Conduct Testing: Carry out basic electrical, reliability and packaging tests to support product validation.
• Maintain Accurate Records: Record test results, prepare simple technical reports and ensure documentation is complete and compliant.
• Support Measurement Processes: Participate in measurement uncertainty studies and contribute to accurate calibration outcomes.
• Assist Customers: Help customers interpret product specifications and understand measurement data.
• Maintain Test Equipment: Ensure measurement and test equipment is properly maintained and calibrated to required standards.

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Working towards a degree in an appropriate Mechanical or Automotive Engineering discipline
• Understanding of industrial or production engineering
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Apply Python, Power BI, and data analytics skills to support root cause investigations, automate quality reporting processes, and improve real-time visibility of customer quality performance across PSBU product programmes
• Explore and develop machine learning and AI-assisted tools to identify patterns in quality and engineering data, supporting early detection of product concerns and smarter corrective action prioritisation
• Contribute to Quality 4.0 initiatives — building dashboards, automation tools, and analytical models that modernise how the quality team manages and resolves customer and product issues
