Job summary

O’Neill & Brennan in Cardiff are seeking an experienced Quality Manager / Facades Inspector to lead independent quality inspections for a major facade package on a high-profile scheme.

The role covers reviewing ITPs, monitoring workmanship, reporting defects, and ensuring installations meet approved designs, regulations and project standards. This is a long-term freelance assignment, with a negotiable rate and a minimum 12-month commitment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Quality Manager or Facades Inspector on large-scale construction projects.
• Strong technical understanding of external envelope systems (curtain walling, cladding, glazing).
• Ability to identify defects, challenge workmanship and ensure corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Independently inspect facade installations and assess their quality throughout the programme.
• Monitor workmanship, installation methods and conformity to drawings and specs.
• Conduct regular site inspections, identify defects and areas for remedial works.
• Review ITPs, QA documentation and installation records.
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, fire safety and facade system specs.
• Liaise with principal contractor, facade subcontractors and design teams.
• Produce detailed inspection reports, photos and quality assessments.
• Manage defect close-out and ensure timely corrective actions.
• Support QA processes through to handover and snagging.

The Opportunity

O'Neill & Brennan are currently recruiting for an experienced Quality Manager / Facades Inspector to join a major multi-million-pound construction project in Cardiff.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong individual to undertake independent quality inspections and oversee the installation standards of a substantial facades package on a high-profile scheme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all facade installations are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, industry standards and project quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently inspect and assess the quality of facade installations throughout the construction programme.

• Monitor workmanship, installation methods and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

• Undertake regular site inspections, identifying defects, non-conformances and areas requiring remedial works.

• Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality assurance documentation and installation records.

• Ensure compliance with relevant Building Regulations, fire safety requirements and facade system specifications.

• Liaise with the principal contractor, facade subcontractors, design teams and project management.

• Produce detailed inspection reports, photographic records and quality assessments.

• Monitor the close-out of defects and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are completed to the required standard.

• Support quality assurance processes through to final inspections, snagging and handover.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience in a Quality Manager, Facades Inspector, Facades Manager or Clerk of Works capacity.

• Strong technical understanding of external envelope and facade systems, including curtain walling, cladding, glazing and associated interfaces.

• Previous experience inspecting facade packages on large-scale commercial or major construction projects.

• Thorough understanding of construction quality standards, installation tolerances and relevant regulatory requirements.

• Ability to identify technical defects and challenge substandard workmanship confidently and professionally.

• Strong reporting, communication and documentation skills.

• Experience working independently on behalf of a principal contractor, developer or client would be advantageous.
