As Quality Manager on a 6 month fixed term contract, you will take ownership of a high-impact function within a UKAS‑accredited environment, working at the forefront of compliance in a regulated technical sector. This is an opportunity to influence how quality is embedded across complex projects while collaborating with skilled professionals and regulatory bodies.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

The Quality Manager is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, oversight and enhancement of the Quality Management System, ensuring full alignment with UKAS accreditation requirements, HSE guidance and relevant ISO standards. Operating at the center of technical governance, the role partners closely with surveyors, analysts, technical specialists and senior leadership to ensure consistency, integrity and compliance across all service delivery.

This position spans organisational-wide responsibility across surveying, air monitoring and laboratory analysis functions delivered under ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025 frameworks. You will provide oversight of competence, authorisation and procedural adherence while managing audit projects and engaging directly with UKAS Assessment Managers and, where required, HSE inspectors. The Quality Manager also plays a key role in supporting business development by reinforcing compliance credibility within client submissions and tenders.

Your Impact in this Position

In the early stages, you will establish control and visibility across the Quality Management System, strengthening compliance and ensuring consistent audit readiness. As you embed into the role, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality, operational efficiency and technical performance. Over time, you will shape quality strategy, contribute to organisational growth through strong accreditation performance and influence the future direction of compliance within the business. This role offers exposure to complex, high‑value projects and meaningful engagement with regulators, positioning you as a key driver of industry‑leading standards.

  • Quality and Compliance Management – manage and evolve Quality Management Systems aligned to ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025, navigate regulatory frameworks such as the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSG264, and maintain document control, governance and risk assessment.
  • UKAS and HSE Audit Management – lead UKAS audits from preparation to completion, act as key point of contact for regulatory bodies, manage audit findings with root cause analysis and implement corrective actions, ensuring continuous audit readiness.
  • Internal Auditing and Quality Control – design and deliver comprehensive internal audit projects for field operations, laboratory processes and technical competence, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Proficiency Testing and Technical Assurance – oversee technical assurance processes, manage proficiency testing schemes, review performance data and drive improvements, ensuring control of method validation, equipment calibration and competence frameworks.
  • Training, Competence and Improvement – develop capability across the organisation, ensure training, qualifications and CPD requirements are met, embed regulatory change updates and foster continuous improvement.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience within a UKAS‑accredited asbestos consultancy or similar technical environment.
• Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025.
• Relevant BOHS certifications such as P402, P403 and P404 (P405 knowledge advantageous).
• Internal or Lead Auditor training highly desirable, with a record of professional development in quality management and compliance.
• Additional qualifications such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor beneficial.

Working Environment

This role offers a balanced and flexible approach to working, combining office‑based collaboration, site engagement and remote working. Regular presence in the office is expected for audit preparation and governance activities. Travel to operational sites for audits and inspections, and occasional external meetings with UKAS or regulatory bodies. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements are supported.
