Job description

About The Role

Job Title: Quality Manager

Location: North East Scotland / Aberdeen / Peterhead

Company: Balfour Beatty

Project: Energy | Major Infrastructure

Build the infrastructure powering Scotland’s energy future

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality Manager to join our Energy business and play a key role in the delivery of our work across the ASTI (Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment) programme in North East Scotland.

This is an opportunity to be part of one of Scotland’s most significant infrastructure programmes, supporting the expansion and reinforcement of the electricity transmission network required to connect renewable energy and help deliver the UK’s transition to net zero.

Working as part of our project leadership and delivery teams, you’ll take ownership of quality assurance across your area of the programme, helping us ensure our projects are delivered Right First Time and in accordance with Balfour Beatty, customer, regulatory and industry requirements.

What you'll be doing

As Quality Manager, you’ll work closely with our construction, engineering, design, commercial and supply chain teams to create a strong and proactive quality culture across the project.

  • Lead and support the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and assurance processes.
  • Provide expert quality advice, coaching and support to project delivery teams and our supply chain.
  • Ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and appropriate quality controls and assurance mechanisms are in place.
  • Drive quality performance, metrics and reporting across the project, identifying trends and implementing improvement actions.
  • Support project teams in the use of digital quality and assurance systems to monitor deliverables, inspections and issues.
  • Coordinate quality documentation and assurance submissions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and support project, supplier and internal audits, including preparation for external certification audits.
  • Work collaboratively with our customer, designers, consultants, contractors and supply chain partners.
  • Support investigations into quality-related issues, identifying root causes and ensuring lessons learned are shared across the programme.
  • Champion continuous improvement and challenge existing ways of working where better solutions can be identified.
  • Coach and develop quality capability within project teams.
  • Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm and Right First Time.
Who we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced quality professional who understands major construction and infrastructure delivery and can influence teams at every level.

You Should Have
  • Strong experience within a Civils and/or Build construction environment.
  • A strong understanding of Quality Management and Quality Assurance within major projects.
  • Experience working with SSEN as a customer would be highly advantageous.
  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor training.
  • Experience of driving business improvement and leading positive change.
  • Strong coaching, communication and influencing skills.
  • The ability to analyse information, identify trends and turn findings into meaningful improvement actions.
  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to see actions through to completion.
  • Confidence producing and presenting objective written and verbal reports.
  • Good knowledge of modern digital systems including Office 365, SharePoint and Power BI.
  • CQI Chartered Membership, or be actively working towards Chartered status.
It Would Also Be Beneficial If You Have
  • A formal qualification in Quality Management.
  • Knowledge of sector-specific certifications and assurance requirements.
  • Experience using digital progressive assurance systems or electronic forms.
  • Operational experience within construction, energy infrastructure or asset management.
Why join us?

The ASTI programme represents a major period of investment in Scotland's electricity transmission infrastructure and provides the opportunity to build a long-term career working on complex, nationally significant engineering projects.

You'll join a collaborative Balfour Beatty team where Quality is seen as an integral part of successful project delivery – not simply a compliance function.

You'll have the opportunity to influence how projects are delivered, work alongside experienced infrastructure professionals and help establish best practice that can be shared across our wider Energy business.

If you're an experienced Quality Manager from a construction, civil engineering or major infrastructure background and want to play a key role in delivering Scotland's future energy infrastructure, we'd like to hear from you.
