Job summary

BRUSH Group seeks a Quality Manager to lead QA across design, manufacturing and installation of substations in the UK. You will drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance with National Grid, IEC, BS EN and ISO 9001 standards, and oversee cross-functional QA activities from design to installation.

The role requires a 5+ year track record in quality management in power/substation contexts, a CQI qualification, and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification, with willingness to travel and a UK

Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or quality management.
  • CGI/ISO 9001 Lead Auditor accreditation.
  • 5+ years in quality management in power/substation sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the quality team across design, manufacturing and installation.
  • Develop, implement and maintain QMS for substation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with National Grid, IEC, BS EN and ISO 9001 standards and health/safety rules.
  • Oversee QA across design, procurement, manufacturing and installation phases.
  • Conduct inspections, audits and risk assessments and drive corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management and site teams to meet standards.
  • Work with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve non-conformances.
  • Maintain and improve documentation, reporting and compliance records.
  • Provide training and mentorship on quality best practices.
  • Regular site visits across the UK.

What's the role?

The Quality Manager leads and manages the quality assurance and control processes for the design, manufacturing and installation of substations across the UK. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements and customer specifications while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Quality team.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) for substation design and installation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with National Grid, IEC, BS EN, and ISO 9001 standards, as well as health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee quality assurance across design, procurement, manufacturing, and installation phases.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and site teams to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Work closely with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain quality standards and resolve any non-conformances.
  • Maintain and improve documentation, reporting, and compliance records.
  • Provide training and mentorship to project teams on quality best practices.
  • Regular site visits across the UK
What Are We Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
  • CQI qualification
  • 5+ years of experience in quality management within the power, transmission, or substation industry.
  • Certification in Lead Auditor (ISO 9001)
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel extensively
  • Experience working as a solo contributor
  • Experience of working with Distribution network Operators.
  • Experience in UVDB Achilles accreditation
  • Experience in National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) accreditation
