Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is delivering the Lower Thames Crossing project, a £1.2 billion highway scheme that includes 43 bridges and 17 km of complex construction. We seek a Quality Manager to lead the Quality Strategy, establish Right First Time, and drive performance improvements across the team.

You will implement Quality Management Plans, manage assurance activities, and mentor project teams to meet all specification and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to lead quality strategy and drive Right First Time on large projects.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining Quality Management Plans and assurance activities.
  • Ability to train teams and manage quality-related skills development.
  • Experience conducting audits, surveillances, and root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality leadership to deliver the Quality Strategy.
  • Establish Right First-Time culture using BB Group material.
  • Prepare and maintain the project Quality Management Plan(s).
  • Produce project Assurance Plans to support deliverables and H&S file requirements.
  • Establish QA training and coaching to meet quality expectations.
  • Drive quality metrics, monitoring, and improvements.
  • Conduct audits and site quality tours with findings closure.

About The Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Quality Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme‑wide, industry‑leading approach to carbon reduction. What you'll be doing
  • Providing quality leadership to deliver the Quality Strategy
  • Establish a Right First‑Time culture on the project, utilising the BB Group material.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain the project Quality Management Plan(s) and associated processes that deliver Right First Time to project specification and requirements.
  • Produce project Assurance Plan(s) to support the delivery of project deliverables, handover, and Health & Safety File requirements.
  • Establish quality‑related training, coaching & skills processes so that the project teams understand and manage the delivery quality expectations.
  • Drive the quality metrics and monitoring and reporting on project performance relating to quality and agree (and monitor) management actions to drive performance improvements.
  • Conduct audits, surveillances, and site quality tours, reporting on the results, and managing findings to closure.
  • Interface with audit function to support local processes.
  • Support the business unit external accreditation process (including ISO9001 and industry licences) to ensure it can operate in its chosen sector.
  • Undertake investigations and implement effective root‑cause analysis where applicable.
  • Support the construction team in establishing inspection and test plans, through training, and progressive reviewing and commenting.
  • Establish an approach to manage quality‑related matters with the Supply Chain, including delivering training on specialist quality subjects.
