Job summary

Active Care Group is seeking a Quality Learning & Development Nurse at Hunters Moor Birmingham. This dual role combines a rostered clinical shift at the service with collaboration with the Learning & Development team to drive quality and governance across the neuro service.

You will lead education, competency development and climate of evidence-based practice while maintaining clinical activity and supporting staff across the MDT.

Qualifications

  • Current NMC PIN registration (RN) and legal right to work in the UK.
  • Experience in neurological care and complex care is required.
  • Experience with tracheostomies, spinal patients and complex patients would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Motor Neurone Disease, neurology or complex long-term conditions desirable, with full training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Lead local quality improvement initiatives including clinical audits and action plans.
  • Coordinate learning and development activities and induction of new staff.
  • Support governance by reviewing incidents and monitoring compliance with competencies.
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentoring to staff and chiropractic emerging clinical leaders.
  • Ensure learning programmes reflect current evidence and organisational priorities.

# Quality Learning & Development NurseBirminghamFull TimeCloses 31 October 2026Apply nowYou'll be taken to our application system to complete your application.## About this role**Come and join one of the UK’s largest providers in complex care.**We'd like you to join us as a **Quality Learning & Development Nurse** at our service Hunters Moor in Birmingham.**This is a dual role which will include a rosta’d shift at this service whilst working closely with the Learning & Development team for the remainder.**At Hunters Moor, we provide specialist Level 2 Neurological Rehabilitation and Neurobehavioural services to people aged over 18 in Birmingham. We’re committed to helping every person we support feel safe, happy, empowered enabling them to live the best life possible.**Where you'll be working:**37.63 hours per week, on a rota basis (Monday - Sunday)You will be required to work a minimum of one full shift a week at your designated place of work without exception reporting to the Service or Hospital Director/ Clinical Lead Deputy Manager/ Ward Manager as required.For other hours of work within this post, you will have a dotted line of reporting to the Learning and Development Director.**What you'll be doing:**Purpose of the RoleThe Quality & Learning Development Nurse is responsible for driving improvements in clinical quality, professional practice and workforce capability and training across the neuro service. The role combines clinical credibility with education, quality assurance and governance to support the organisation's ambition to develop high-performing neuro hospitals.Working under the sites registered manager, and also the operational leadership of the service, with a dotted-line professional accountability to the Active Neuro Director of Nursing and Quality, and the Director of Learning & Development, the post holder will ensure that learning is translated into consistently safe, evidence-based clinical practice.The role will maintain direct clinical competence by undertaking minimum of one clinical shift per week within the most clinically complex area of the service.**Key Responsibilities**Clinical Practice* Undertake at least one rostered clinical shift each week within the clinical area, unless the requirement of training is greater.* Act as a visible clinical leader and role model.* Support staff with complex clinical decision-making.* Coach colleagues in evidence-based neurorehabilitation practice.* Identify opportunities for improvement through direct observation of careQuality ImprovementLead and support local quality improvement initiatives, including:* Clinical audits.* Quality improvement projects.* Action plans following incidents.* Learning from complaints.* Learning from safeguarding reviews.* CQC readiness.* Hospital accreditation preparation.* Improvement following inspections.* Monitor progress against quality metrics and ensure improvement actions remain on track.Learning & DevelopmentLead the local learning agenda by:* Supporting induction of new clinical staff.* Delivering mandatory and specialist neuro training.* Identifying competency gaps.* Supporting competency sign-off.* Developing clinical champions.* Coaching emerging clinical leaders.* Supporting preceptorship and career development.* Ensure learning programmes reflect current evidence, national guidance and organisational prioritiesGovernanceSupport the local governance framework by:* Participating in clinical governance meetings.* Reviewing incidents and identifying themes.* Monitoring compliance with clinical competencies.* Supporting policy implementation.* Contributing to risk assessments.* Supporting regulatory compliance.* Promoting continuous learning across the multidisciplinary team.Professional RelationshipsReports to:* Hospital/Nursing Home Registered Manager* Clinical Lead/ Deputy ManagerProfessionally (Dotted Line):* Director of Nursing & Quality – Active Neuro* Director of Learning & DevelopmentWorks closely with:* Operational Director* Consultants* Therapy Leads* Ward Managers* Clinical Leads* Practice Development Team* Governance TeamSuccess MeasuresThe post holder will contribute towards:* Improved CQC outcomes.* Improved audit compliance.* Reduced medication and clinical incidents.* Increased competency compliance.* Improved mandatory training compliance.* Improved clinical documentation.* Positive patient outcomes.* Enhanced staff confidence and capability.* Delivery of quality improvement projects.* Successful implementation of hospital standards.**The role should remain highly visible within the clinical environment, acting as the bridge between education, governance and frontline practice. Must have previous experience working with tracheostomies, spinal patients, and complex patients.*** **Knowledge and experience in Motor Neurone Disease, neurology, or complex long-term conditions desireable, however, full training will be provided.*** Experience of of managing complex patients, utilising advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose and implement appropriate nursing support plans.
