Job summary

Scottish Leather Group is seeking a Laboratory Technician to ensure leather, raw materials, and environmental samples meet stringent specifications. You will perform tests, prepare samples, interpret results, and keep meticulous records to support production and continuous improvement.

The role requires collaboration with Production, Technical, Quality, and external contacts to meet tight deadlines. You will maintain equipment, assist color assessment, and promote safe, compliant lab practices

Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience in manufacturing or automotive environments is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing methods and quality standards.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce clear reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Effective communication with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive in problem solving with evidence-based solutions.
  • IT competence and safety-conscious approach.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out laboratory testing on leather, incoming materials, and effluent/water samples in accordance with recognised test methods, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
  • Ensure samples are correctly prepared and conditioned before testing, maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and consistency.
  • Analyse and interpret test results, highlighting non-conformances, ambiguous findings, or potential risks promptly to support effective decision making.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and reports, ensuring testing data is up to date, traceable, and communicated to customers and internal stakeholders when required.
  • Work closely with Production, Technical, Quality, and external contacts to deliver testing within customer deadlines and production schedules.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated, safe, and fit for purpose while supporting a well-organised and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Support colour assessment activities, providing feedback on leather colour and advising on corrective actions where required.
  • Champion safe working practices and contribute to continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, including supporting IMDS data management.
