Job summary

Optima UK Inc Ltd is seeking a Quality Inspector for a permanent dayshift role in Ferndown. You will perform first article, in-process and final inspections using micrometres, callipers, comparators and other precision equipment to ensure components meet customer and quality requirements.

You will work closely with production and the Quality Engineer to document results, interpret drawings, and address quality issues in a controlled manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality inspection within manufacturing/precision engineering.
• Experience conducting first article, in-process and final inspections.
• Strong knowledge of precision inspection equipment.
• Experience using micrometres and callipers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct first article, start-up, in-process and final inspections.
• Carry out final inspection using precision instruments.
• Inspect all parts manufactured on site prior to external processes.
• Document inspection results and maintain quality records.
• Identify and report quality issues to the Supervisor.
• Support the Quality Engineer in monitoring quality procedures.

About the Company

A well-established precision engineering business is looking for an experienced Quality Inspector to join its quality team.

The business operates within a highly controlled manufacturing environment where quality, precision and attention to detail are critical.

This is a hands-on inspection role suited to someone who understands the importance of getting things right at every stage of the manufacturing process - from first article and start-up inspections through to final inspection before despatch.

The Role

As a Quality Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting and documenting inspections of in-process and finished components, ensuring products conform to specified customer and quality requirements.

You will use a range of precision inspection and test equipment, including micrometres, callipers, comparators, indicators, pin gauges, thread gauges and scanning arms.

The role will involve working closely with production and supporting the Quality Engineer to ensure quality procedures and controls are being correctly followed throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and document first article, start-up, in-process and final inspections.
• Carry out final inspection using micrometres, callipers, comparators, indicators and scanning arms.
• Perform visual and mechanical inspection of manufactured components.
• Use precision inspection equipment including:
  • Micrometres
  • Vernier callipers
  • Pin gauges
  • Thread gauges
  • Comparators
  • Indicators
  • Scanning arms
• Ensure inspection results conform to specified customer and quality requirements.
• Review and interpret customer requirements, drawings and specifications.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, Bills of Materials and quality documents/plans.
• Inspect all parts manufactured on site prior to external processes such as plating, cleaning or bending.
• Complete inspection documentation accurately and maintain quality records.
• Identify and report unusual conditions, unexpected results or quality issues to the Supervisor.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged or out-of-calibration equipment and procedures that are not being followed.
• Support the Quality Engineer by monitoring the execution of quality procedures on the production line.
• Identify the need for special controls, processes, test equipment, tooling or skills required to achieve the specified level of quality.
• Follow the Company's Quality Management System and health and safety procedures.
• Work closely with production to resolve quality issues and prevent non-conformances.

About You

• Previous experience within a quality inspection role in a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
• Experience conducting first article, in-process and final inspections.
• Strong knowledge of precision inspection equipment.
• Experience using micrometres and callipers.
• Experience with pin gauges and thread gauges.
• Experience using comparators, indicators or scanning arms would be advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Ability to understand product specifications and visual work instructions.
• Experience working to quality procedures and inspection plans.
• Good understanding of customer quality requirements.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities.
