Job summary

All Square Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Quality Inspector for a short-term contract in Colchester. You will perform dimensional measurements using Romer Arm and CMM, interpreting drawings and GD&T to ensure conformance on a well-established manufacturing site.

The role focuses on accurate data capture, calibration checks, and maintaining inspection records within a structured quality environment, with a competitive hourly rate and early- or core-day shifts.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in dimensional inspection/metrology/quality control.
• Ability to read/interprete engineering drawings including GD&T.
• Hands-on Romer Arm experience desirable.
• Proficient with vernier and digital calipers; understands calibration and NCR processes.
• Strong attention to detail and reliable documentation.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings accurately, including dimensions, tolerances, units, revisions, notes, and title blocks.
• Apply general tolerancing principles, distinguishing between drawing-wide and individually tol­eranced dimensions.
• Demonstrate a working understanding of GD&T (flatness, straightness, parallelism, perpendicularity, position, profile, datums).
• Carry out precise measurements using vernier and digital callipers (external, internal, step, depth).
• Set up and operate a Romer Arm with AS1 scanner, including referencing, probing/scanning, alignment, feature construction, reporting.
• Prepare surfaces and apply correct scanning techniques to ensure full coverage and recognise poor-quality point-cloud data.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, capturing measured values, equipment ID, drawing revision, and acceptance status.
• Check equipment calibration status prior to use and follow procedures for overdue/damaged equipment.
• Identify and quarantine nonconforming product, raising NCRs rather than accepting deviations.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a dimensional inspection, metrology, or quality control role is essential.
• Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T symbols and tolerancing.
• Hands-on experience using a Romer Arm (or similar portable CMM/scanning arm) is highly desirable.
• Competent in the use of vernier and digital callipers for precision measurement.
• Understanding of calibration procedures and non-conformance/NCR processes.
• Strong attention to detail with a methodical, accurate approach to record-keeping.
• Good communication skills and a reliable work ethic.
