Job summary

Qualitrol is seeking a Quality Inspection Technician to support quality assurance, inspection, calibration, and production improvement for electrical monitoring products. You will verify conformity, document results, and partner with production and warehouse teams to resolve supplier or process issues.

Responsibilities include performing FAI, reading blueprints, inspections, calibration scheduling, MRB communications, and PPAP documentation, with a focus on maintaining traceability and quality

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (C or above) or equivalent is required.
• Preferred: technical qualification in engineering, manufacturing, quality, calibration, or a related discipline (HND, HNC or BTEC).
• 2+ years of Oracle experience or equivalent preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of metrology, calibration practices, and applicable standards.
• Certification as a Calibration Technician or Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory technician strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Understanding of quality concepts and standards, including ISO and NIST requirements.
• Lean production flow concepts preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

• Maintain inspection records and MRB-related transactions; support MRB actions.
• Schedule external calibration of laboratory equipment and maintain calibration standards.
• Investigate and prioritize quality and process issues; implement countermeasures.
• Support PPAP tasks and related quality documentation.
• Create and review standard work instructions for manufacturing cells.
• Collaborate with warehouse, production, operations, and quality to resolve issues.

Job description

The Quality Inspection Technician supports quality assurance, inspection, calibration, and production improvement activities for instruments, controls, and monitoring products used in the electric utility transmission and distribution industry. This role is responsible for verifying product conformity, documenting inspection results, supporting Material Review Board activities, maintaining calibration compliance, and partnering with production and warehouse teams to resolve supplier, quality and process issues.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with applicable drawings, specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.
• Prepare clear inspection reports, performance records, and supporting documentation; communicate FAI results to applicable stakeholders.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, plans, specifications, and workmanship standards to determine product requirements.
• Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections as needed to verify product conformity.
• Measure product dimensions, evaluate functionality, and compare results against specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Use proper inspection techniques and measuring equipment, including CMM, micrometers, gauges, calipers, and other inspection tools.
• Make product acceptance decisions based on specifications, procedures, and company workmanship criteria.
• Identify, upscale, and support resolution of quality concerns in a timely manner to protect product quality and customer requirements.
• Maintain organized inspection records and complete system transactions related to inspection and Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
• Send daily MRB correspondence to impacted teams and support follow-up actions as required, including returning materials to suppliers.
• Support calibration activities by scheduling external calibration of laboratory equipment while minimizing disruption to production.
• Maintain calibration standards in accordance with internal procedures, external requirements, traceability expectations, master accuracy, and applicable environmental controls.
• Investigate, analyze, and prioritize quality and process issues; implement and verify effective countermeasures.
• Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) tasks and related quality documentation.
• Create, maintain, and periodically review standard work instructions for manufacturing cells.
• Partner with warehouse, production, operations, and quality personnel to identify and resolve supplier or production-related challenges.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (C or above) or equivalent is required. Technical qualification in engineering, manufacturing, quality, calibration, or a related discipline is preferred eg. HND, HNC or BTEC
• Preferred: 3+ years of quality assurance, inspection, or calibration experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of metrology, methods of measurement, calibration practices, and applicable standards.
• Certification as a Calibration Technician or Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory technician strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Understanding of quality concepts and standards, including ISO and NIST requirements.
• 2+ years of Oracle experience or equivalent preferred.
• Working knowledge of Lean production flow concepts preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in both warehouse and factory environments.
• ESD & Safety shoes are required while in the warehouse or factory floor.
• Shift: Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday: 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
• Some overtime may be required.
