Job summary

Hunter Selection are pleased to partner with a long-established global manufacturer in Plymouth, Devon, to appoint a Quality Engineer (QMS). The role focuses on maintaining and improving the Quality Management System and driving continuous improvement within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

You will work with production, engineering, suppliers and customers to ensure the highest quality standards, lead audits, and implement robust corrective actions, PFMEA reviews and control plans.

Qualifications

• Experience as Quality Engineer, QA Engineer, or Quality Systems Engineer.
• Experience maintaining a QMS.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 within manufacturing.
• Experience conducting internal audits and supporting external audits.
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills (8D, 5 Why, RCA).
• Ability to analyse quality data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Documentation control and ERP/MRP experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Support ISO 9001 compliance and other standards.
• Lead internal and external quality audits.
• Drive corrective and preventive actions through structured problem-solving.
• Conduct root cause investigations using 8D, 5 Why and Ishikawa.
• Analyse quality data and identify trends for CI.
• Manage non-conformance processes and resolutions.
• Develop/update quality documents, procedures and control plans.
• Support customer quality requirements and investigations.
• Collaborate with production/engineering to improve process capability.
• Monitor KPIs and quality metrics.
• Support PFMEA reviews and process validation.

The Role

As a Quality Engineer, you will support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management System while working closely with production, engineering, customers, and suppliers to ensure the highest quality standards are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS)
• Support compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards
• Lead and participate in internal and external quality audits
• Drive corrective and preventive actions through structured problem-solving techniques
• Conduct root cause investigations using tools such as 8D, 5 Why and Ishikawa
• Analyse quality data and identify trends to support continuous improvement activities
• Manage non-conformance processes and ensure effective resolution
• Develop and update quality documentation, procedures, work instructions and control plans
• Support customer quality requirements and investigate customer complaints
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve process capability and product quality
• Monitor KPIs and quality performance metrics
• Support risk management activities including PFMEA reviews and process validation activities

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a Quality Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer or Quality Systems Engineer position
• Strong experience maintaining and developing a Quality Management System (QMS)
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 within a manufacturing environment
• Experience conducting internal audits and supporting external audits
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills (8D, 5 Why, RCA)
• Ability to analyse quality data and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong attention to detail and documentation control experience
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Desirable Skills

• Quality or Engineering qualification
• Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering or highly regulated industries
• Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans and SPC
• Experience with SAP
• Understanding of customer quality requirements and complaint management
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies
