Job summary

TXP is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a government-facing digital transformation programme in the UK. The role focuses on building automated testing across UI, API and system levels, integrating with CI/CD, and promoting shift-left quality practices.

The candidate will design test strategies, mentor teams, and work in an Agile environment using Playwright, JUnit and Java, with initial on-site presence in Telford and BPSS clearance preferred.

Quality Engineer

Location: Telford (2 days per week onsite initially, reducing to 2 days per month after the first 3 months)
Rate: £465 per day (Inside IR35)
Start Date& contract length: November 2026 - 12 months contract
Clearance: BPSS Required

About the Role

A leading Government client is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme focused on modernising critical public sector services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement test automation frameworks and solutions from the ground up.
• Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and risk-based testing approaches.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and promote shift-left quality practices.
• Coach and mentor team members on quality engineering principles and best practices.
• Perform testing across multiple levels, including:
  • Unit Testing
  • System Testing
  • Integration Testing
  • Non-Functional Testing
• Analyse business requirements and develop effective test strategies.
• Create and maintain test data and testing artefacts.
• Participate in collaborative development through pair programming.
• Review and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) to support defect investigation and test analysis.
• Design and develop automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright and Java.
• Build and maintain automated test scripts across UI, API, and system-level testing.
• Translate requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into comprehensive automated test coverage.

Essential Skills & Experience
