Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Desford, Leicestershire, is seeking a Quality Engineer to ensure materials, processes and products meet quality standards. You will conduct audits, analyse data and support RCCA with internal teams and external partners within a regulated environment.

You will maintain QMS documentation, support supplier and customer corrective actions, and contribute to CPI initiatives aimed at reducing defects and variation. A CPI Black Belt training program is available.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in quality engineering.
  • Experience with QMS and conducting audits.
  • Ability to analyse quality data and identify non-conformances.
  • Experience supporting RCCA with internal teams, suppliers and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Review non-conformances, analyze trends and support RCCA with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Conduct measurement systems analysis and analyze quality data to identify issues.

  • Contribute to CPI activities focused on defect prevention and waste reduction.
  • CPI Black Belt training will be provided.

The Opportunity

As a Quality Engineer, you will ensure materials, processes and products meet company and customer quality standards across all products and projects. The role focuses on auditing, quality data analysis and supporting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) within a regulated environment. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) and support ongoing quality improvement.

As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Perform audits across materials, processes and products to ensure conformance to company quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Review internal and external non-conformances, analyse trends and support Root Cause Corrective Action with internal teams, suppliers and customers.
  • Conduct measurement systems analysis and analyse quality data to identify issues, risks and improvement opportunities, communicating findings clearly.
  • Maintain accurate quality system documentation and records, ensuring compliance within the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Participate in and provide technical support for internal and external audits, including follow-up, tracking and closure of corrective actions.
  • Contribute to Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) activity focused on defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste.
  • CPI Black Belt training will be provided.

Level Basic Understanding
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Uses a structured approach to review information, identify quality issues and make sound day-to-day decisions within agreed processes. Understands when to act independently and when to elevate or involve others.
  • Project Management: Supports multiple quality-related activities by planning tasks, tracking actions and understanding key milestones and deliverables.
Level Working Knowledge
  • Problem Solving: Applies recognised problem-solving tools to investigate quality issues, understand root cause and support corrective actions using data and facts.
  • Quality Management System (QMS): Works confidently within a QMS environment, following required processes and documentation, monitoring quality metrics and supporting audits and corrective actions.
What You May Have
  • A degree or equivalent experience, with demonstrated quality skills gained through working in a QMS environment, including applying BIQ or CPI methods, supporting audits, analysing quality data, managing non-conformances, and contributing to corrective and improvement activities.
