The Opportunity

Are you a Facilities & Plant Engineer who enjoys delivering projects, solving technical challenges and improving site infrastructure? Join our Facilities Engineering team in Desford and play a key role in delivering facilities and CAPEX projects, managing contractors, and supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our manufacturing facilities. Working across engineering and business teams, you'll apply your project management, problem‑solving, supplier management and relationship management skills, alongside your engineering knowledge of facilities, utilities and infrastructure systems, to drive site performance and continuous improvement.

As a Facilities & Plant Engineer, you are accountable for, but not limited to:

  • Lead and deliver facilities engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring projects are executed safely, on time and within budget while meeting business and stakeholder requirements.
  • Manage facilities‑related contractors and service providers, ensuring safe working practices, compliance with site procedures, contractual obligations and expected service levels.
  • Provide technical support for site facilities, utilities and infrastructure systems, including electrical distribution, building services, HVAC, compressed air, water and energy systems, identifying, investigating and resolving issues using structured problem‑solving techniques and implementing effective long‑term solutions.
  • Support site compliance and governance activities, including contractor control, permit‑to‑work processes, risk assessments and adherence to health, safety, environmental and engineering standards.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, communicating project progress, technical recommendations and engineering decisions to support operational objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement across facilities, utilities and infrastructure systems, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, performance, compliance and cost effectiveness.

What You Can Demonstrate
  • Engineering Knowledge: Demonstrates engineering knowledge typically gained through an HNC/HND, Degree‑level qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent hands‑on application of engineering principles. Able to interpret technical information, understand facilities, utilities and infrastructure systems, and apply sound engineering judgement to support safe, reliable and efficient site operations.
Level Basic Understanding
  • Project Management: Supports the delivery of facilities and CAPEX projects by coordinating activities, resources and stakeholders to achieve project objectives safely, on time and within budget while considering technical requirements and operational impacts.
  • Problem Solving: Uses structured problem‑solving techniques and engineering knowledge to identify, investigate and resolve facilities, utilities and infrastructure‑related issues, supporting the reliability, performance and safe operation of site systems.
  • Supplier Management - MFG: Coordinates contractors and service providers to ensure safe working practices, regulatory compliance and effective delivery of facilities services and projects in line with site standards, engineering requirements and business objectives.
  • Relationship Management: Builds effective working relationships with stakeholders, contractors and colleagues, communicating technical and non‑technical information clearly to support project delivery, engineering decisions and operational objectives.
What You May Have
  • Electrical Engineering Knowledge: A strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including electrical distribution, switchgear, motor controls, control systems and fault‑finding principles. Able to interpret technical information, identify issues and make sound engineering decisions to support the safe and reliable operation of site infrastructure.
  • Facilities and Utilities Knowledge: Working knowledge of building services and utility systems, such as HVAC, compressed air, water, drainage and energy infrastructure. Able to interpret technical information and understand how these systems support manufacturing operations, contributing to their reliability, efficiency and compliance.
  • Facilities Project and Contractor Coordination: Understanding of how facilities projects and contractor activities are planned, coordinated and controlled. Able to apply safe working practices, coordinate activities, manage priorities and ensure work is delivered in line with site standards, engineering requirements and business objectives.
