Job summary

dSb Recruitment Consultancy Ltd. is seeking an outgoing Quality Control Officer / Product Technologist to own product quality, compliance and the critical path from concept through to mass production.

This hands-on role collaborates with product and supplier teams to ensure testing and regulatory standards are met. You'll review concepts, prototypes and production against specs, coordinate lab testing, manage UK compliance across the range, and liaise with suppliers in China to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Experience in a technical, quality or product technology role within furniture, homewares, hardgoods or general merchandise.
• Strong knowledge of product testing, quality and compliance.
• Good understanding of UK and European product safety regulations.
• Experience with UK/European furniture fire retardancy requirements would be advantageous.
• Experience working with overseas suppliers, particularly in China.
• Strong understanding of product specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience managing testing, inspections and quality issues through to resolution.

Job description

We're looking for an outgoing, commercially minded Quality Control Officer / Product Technologist to join a small, collaborative team and take real ownership of product quality, compliance and the critical path from initial concept through to mass production.

This is a hands-on role where you'll be working closely with product and supplier teams, reviewing products and samples, managing testing and ensuring everything is delivered to the required quality, safety and regulatory standards.

Furniture will make up a significant proportion of the product portfolio, so experience within furniture or a strong understanding of furniture construction, technical requirements and UK/European fire retardancy regulations would be highly advantageous.

You'll be the key point of contact for UK product compliance, working closely with colleagues and suppliers on the ground in China to ensure products meet the required standards and that any issues are identified and resolved quickly.

You'll also be responsible for:

This is a role for someone who likes to get into the detail of products, enjoys being close to the development process and isn't afraid to challenge suppliers when something isn't right.

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

We're looking for someone who is confident, outgoing and hands-on, with the ability to build strong relationships in a small team and across an international supplier network.

You'll ideally have:

• Experience in a technical, quality or product technology role within furniture, homewares, hardgoods or general merchandise
• Strong knowledge of product testing, quality and compliance
• A good understanding of UK and European product safety regulations
• Ideally, experience with UK/European furniture fire retardancy requirements
• Experience working with overseas suppliers, particularly within China
• A strong understanding of product specifications and technical documentation
• Experience managing testing, inspections and quality issues through to resolution
• Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical/data skills
• The ability to take ownership of a critical path and ensure nothing falls through the gaps
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with suppliers and stakeholders at all levels
• A solutions-focused approach and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

You may currently be working as a Product Technologist, Quality Technologist, Technical Assistant, Junior/Assistant Technologist or Quality/Compliance Officer.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who loves product, enjoys getting into the detail and wants genuine ownership of quality and compliance rather than simply following a process.
