Job summary

TQR Consultancy Ltd in Plymouth seeks a dynamic Product Technologist to support product quality, safety and compliance across the lifecycle. You’ll work with buying teams, suppliers and partners to coordinate inspections, manage technical documentation and review specifications to ensure legislation and internal standards are met.

You will analyze technical data and certifications, support new product introduction projects, investigate issues and identify opportunities for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Excellent planning, organisational and time-management skills, preferably gained within a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • The ability to respond quickly and effectively to changing requirements and priorities.
  • A technical background in mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering or softlines.
  • Experience within retail, manufacturing or factory quality control.
  • Experience with risk assessment processes.
  • Strong knowledge of product groups and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with product specifications, technical drawings and component-level problem solving.
  • Strong analytical, lateral-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Good IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge or experience of 8D, Six Sigma and other quality improvement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate pre-shipment inspections, DUPRO inspections, social compliance audits and associated documentation.
  • Review packaging, labels and instruction manuals to ensure information is accurate and compliant.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation and product specifications.
  • Ensure production methods and products comply with relevant legislation and applicable standards.
  • Support product introduction projects and associated technical activities.
  • Maintain and input product quality, safety, compliance and due diligence data.
  • Review and analyse testing, inspection reports and certification provided by third parties.
  • Work independently while managing changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and communicate technical information clearly to colleagues and suppliers.
  • Request, review and process technical information from buyers and suppliers.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process and quality improvements.
  • Liaise directly with buying teams, suppliers, internal departments and external service providers.
  • Review internal and external complaints and carry out appropriate compliance checks.
  • Collate and analyse quality and compliance data against defined parameters.
  • Proactively identify potential problems and recommend commercially viable solutions.
  • Undertake other duties and projects as required.

Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Product Technologist to join our team in Plymouth.

This role is responsible for supporting product quality, safety and compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with buying teams, suppliers and third-party partners, you will coordinate inspections and audits, manage technical documentation, review product specifications and ensure products comply with relevant legislation and internal standards.
