Job summary

Smile Education in Hyde is recruiting a qualified Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term role starting September 2026 in a supportive primary school.

You will work with teachers, provide one-to-one and small-group support, assist with SEND and safeguarding, and help children develop learning and personal skills in a welcoming, inclusive classroom.

Qualifications

  • Level 2+ Teaching Assistant qualification is required.
  • Recent experience with children or young people.
  • Right to work in the UK and safeguarding checks.

Responsibilities

  • Support lessons and classroom activities with the class teacher.
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Assist children with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Deliver learning activities and interventions under direction.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and independence.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and activities.
  • Observe and share progress with the team.
  • Support pupils during break and lunchtime as needed.

Pay: £95–£110 per day, depending on experience

Smile Education is working with a supportive primary school in Hyde to recruit a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys helping children overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve their potential. You will become an important part of the classroom team, working alongside teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils throughout their school day. Your duties may include:

  • Working alongside the class teacher to support lessons and classroom activities.
  • Providing targeted one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Helping pupils stay focused, motivated and involved in their learning.
  • Supporting children with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Delivering learning activities and interventions under the direction of the teacher.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop their independence.
  • Assisting with the preparation of classroom resources and activities.
  • Supporting pupils with their academic, personal and social development.
  • Sharing observations and relevant information about pupils' progress with the teaching team.
  • Helping to maintain a welcoming, safe and inclusive classroom.
  • Working effectively with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
  • Supporting pupils during break and lunchtime where required.
The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Qualified to at least Level 2 as a Teaching Assistant or in a relevant supporting teaching and learning qualification.
  • Experienced in working with children or young people, ideally within a school or education environment.
  • Warm, patient and approachable.
  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils.
  • Able to support children with different abilities, needs and learning styles.
  • Reliable, adaptable and professional.
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a team.
  • Passionate about helping children learn, develop and succeed.
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
Qualification Requirement

You must hold a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 2 or above, such as:

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification
  • Another relevant equivalent qualification
Essential Requirements

To be considered, you will need:

  • A recognised Level 2+ Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Recent experience working with children or young people.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Smile Education.
  • Two years of satisfactory employment and/or education references.
  • At least one suitable reference confirming experience working with children.
  • Successful completion of all required safeguarding and compliance checks.
