Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Plan and deliver well-structured lessons to assigned classes in line with the school’s curriculum, schemes of work, and planning guidelines
  • Assess, monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, learning needs, and achievements using accurate assessment methods
  • Differentiate teaching to address individual strengths and areas for development
  • Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge students
  • Promote strong academic progress and learning outcomes
  • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and curriculum understanding
  • Support pupils in preparing for external assessments
  • Record attendance following the school’s attendance policy

Whole-School Organisation, Strategy, and Development

  • Support the development and implementation of school policies and procedures, aligned with our ethos and values
  • Positively contribute to the wider life of the school
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure cohesive curriculum planning and pupil development
  • Provide cover when required in cases of staff absence

Health, Safety, and Discipline

  • Ensure pupil safety and wellbeing at all times
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, maintaining a positive and secure learning environment

Professional Development

  • Participate in the school’s appraisal process
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance teaching practice
  • Where appropriate, support the professional development of colleagues

Communication

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with pupils, parents, and carers
  • Work closely with colleagues and external professionals as needed
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with the wider school community

Conduct and Professionalism

  • Maintain public trust in the teaching profession and uphold high standards of behaviour and ethics
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all school-related duties, including punctuality and adherence to school policies
  • Understand and fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the teaching role

Safeguarding

  • Adhere to statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and follow the school’s safeguarding policies
  • Work in partnership with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to promote student welfare and take appropriate action when needed
  • Prioritise the safeguarding and protection of all pupils

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Previous experience teaching at the secondary level in a related subject is preferred

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in curriculum development and implementation
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning and development
