Job summary

Badham Pharmacy in Gloucester is seeking a Dispensing Assistant to join the team at our Longford branch. You will be one of the first faces customers see, helping with prescriptions and providing healthcare advice.

We offer a supportive training route, possible progression to NVQ3 technician courses, and a range of staff benefits. Salary starts at £12.71–£13.46 per hour with a 37.5–40 hour week and occasional Saturdays.

Qualifications

• NVQ2 in dispensing or enrolled on trainee course with expected completion in 9–12 months.
• Experience-based progression opportunities through NVQ3 technician courses (ACD/ACT).
• Strong customer-facing communication and willingness to provide patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture dosette trays for local community patients needing extra support with medication
• Download and prepare prescriptions received from local surgery or collected by customers
• Support medicines counter assistant and pharmacist in daily duties
• Engage with customers to ensure right level of care and appropriate medications
• Discuss additional services offered, including Pharmacy First scheme

Job description

Badham Pharmacy is a family owned chain of 28 pharmacies across Gloucestershire and Bristol, serving patients since 1940, and with a long history of exceptional patient-centred care. We are proud to have been awarded 'Pharmacy Group of the Year' at the 2024 Pharmacy Business awards.

This vacancy is in our Longford, Gloucester branch and will be 37.5-40 hours a week. Hours of work will be between Monday-Friday 0900-1800 and will include some Saturdays 0900-1230 on a rota basis. We will accept part time applicants for this role if you are able to work a minimum of 4 full days a week

Our starting rates of pay are competitive starting at £12.71 for trainees and £13.46 for NVQ2 qualified dispensers and are based on experience. In addition we offer 29 days holiday a year (inclusive of all bank holidays), 20% discount in all of our shops, CUSHON pension scheme, discretionary Christmas bonus, and Blue Light Card membership (applied for separately)

The Dispensing Assistant is an integral member of the pharmacy team. You are one of the first people many customers will see when coming into the pharmacy, speak to when seeking healthcare advice and interact with when collecting a prescription or ask for help when they wish to purchase a medicine. In addition you can expect your day to day duties to include:-

• Manufacturing dosette trays for our local community patients who need extra support in organising medication
• Downloading and preparing prescriptions that have been sent from a local surgery or a customer has arrived to collect
• Supporting the medicines counter assistant and pharmacist in their roles
• Having effective conversations with customers, ensuring that they get the right level of care and medication for their needs
• Engaging with customers , around the large amount of additional services that we offer, including the Pharmacy First scheme

As a qualified dispenser you will have an NVQ2 in dispensing either the National Pharmacy Association (or equivalent provider). For the trainee dispenser role, the successful applicant will be enrolled on this course with expected completion taking 9-12 months, after which a pay review would follow.

We also like to progress our own staff through their careers and can actively support with enrolments onto the NVQ3 technician course, Accuracy Checking for Dispensers (ACD) or Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) courses
