Job summary

Catalent Swindon is seeking a QC Scientist 2 (FTC) to perform quality control release testing of finished products using diverse analytical techniques, and to support validation studies within a dedicated laboratory setting.

The role requires a degree in a scientific field, HPLC experience, and solid IT skills. You will review junior scientists’ work, prepare stability reports, and ensure compliance with GMP and safety standards in a 4-on/4-off shift pattern.

Qualifications

• Degree in a Scientific, Biotech or similar subject.
• Experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
• IT literate, including Microsoft Office (Words, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Perform QC release testing of finished products using a range of analytical techniques.
• Review analytical testing completed by junior scientists.
• Support validation studies by creating test plans and executing testing.
• Prepare stability reports and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
• Identify and investigate OOS/OOT results and support deviation investigations.
• Ensure testing is completed accurately, on time and in GMP compliance.
• Interpret schedules and prioritise workload effectively.
• Maintain laboratory standards through 5S and stock management; participate in rotas.
• Support audit readiness, training activities, archiving and quality system compliance.
• Train colleagues where required and support team objectives.
• Adhere to EH&S, COSHH, and lab safety requirements.

Our Swindon facility houses our Zydis® fast dissolving tablet development and manufacturing operation as well as a CMC pharmaceutical analytical lab services unit that offers ASAP stability.

Position Summary

Shift: 07.00 - 19.00, 4 days on, 4 days off

Location: Swindon, UK

100% Onsite

We have an opportunity for a QC Scientist 2 (FTC) to join our team. In this role, you will perform quality control release testing of finished products using a range of analytical techniques. You will support validation studies, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements. This position offers the chance to contribute to a high-performing team in a dynamic laboratory environment.

The Role

• Perform QC release testing of finished products using techniques including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, Dissolution, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Karl Fischer, Ultraviolet, Thin Layer Chromatography, pH and balances.
• Review analytical testing completed by junior scientists.
• Support validation studies by creating test plans and executing testing.
• Prepare stability reports and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
• Identify and investigate Out of Specification/Out of Trend results and support deviation investigations.
• Ensure testing is completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
• Interpret schedules and prioritise workload effectively.
• Maintain laboratory standards through 5S, stock management, and participation in laboratory rotas.
• Support audit readiness, training activities, archiving, and quality system compliance.
• Train colleagues where required and support team objectives.
• Adhere to Environmental Health & Safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, and laboratory safety requirements, promoting a safe working environment.

The Candidate

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in a Scientific, Biotech or similar subject required or equivalent experience.
• Experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography.
• IT literate, including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
