Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our QA team at our new facility at The Fresh Produce Centre in Paddock Wood.
As QA Technician you will provide a flexible, efficient and effective Quality Assurance service for the Thanet Earth business ensuring our products, systems, and processes comply with all due diligence and quality standards.

As a Quality Assurance Technician, you will assess and report on the quality of our products by carrying out visual, sensory, and technical tests during different stages of the process. You will be responsible for ensuring that quality is absolute premium from the moment the raw product arrives, whilst it is in production, and until the point of dispatch.

As a key member of the Quality Assurance team, you will be focused on communicating any quality issues to line management and ensuring that the product meets our customer requirements and specifications.

You will be responsible for inspecting pallets of produce on arrival against quality specifications, recording details on the intake report, and taking samples of all incoming produce. Checking and recording transport conditions and reporting any non-compliance issues.

It will be your responsibility to make an accurate decision as to whether the product is perfect enough for our customer, and if not, what next steps you advise the business to take. Therefore, you will be:
  • Assessing the weights, colours, and defects of produce to ensure that produce is within Thanet Earth specification and that the physical condition of pallets is acceptable.
  • Recording results on the intake report via the tablet.
  • Assessing problems which will require further attention and communicating the results to the appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Generating intake reports and emailing them to the relevant supplier and site / Thanet teams.
  • Providing timely and accurate label service to the production team, printing labels to order according to customer specifications and issuing printed packaging and labels to the production team.
  • If you have experience of working as a Quality Assurance Technician or Label Room operative in the past, you are one step closer to becoming part of our unique team. If you have experience in working with fresh produce, we would love to hear from you.
Skills, know-how and experience required:
  • Ability to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a close-knit team in order to deliver accurate and thorough QA services in the Thanet Earth business.
  • Ability to understand and interpret specifications and use them as a basis for routine decision making and actions.
  • A determined and flexible outlook, able to communicate with confidence at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Ideally, at least one year’s prior experience within a quality-related function in fresh produce.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
The hours you would work:
  • Normal hours of work are not less than 72 but not more than 90 hours per two working weeks on 10 days in 14, between Monday and Sunday inclusive as determined by a rota.
What else we can offer you:
  • A competitive salary.
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave incl. bank hols.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Optional company share scheme.
  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Free onsite parking.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Cycle to work Scheme.
  • Medicash and other benefits.
  • Death in service benefit.
