Job description

Quality Assurance Manager

Location: East Yorkshire
Salary: £39,000 - £42,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Industry: Chilled Food Manufacturing

Make Your Mark on Food Safety and Quality. Are you a hands-on quality professional who enjoys developing people, improving standards and making a visible difference on the factory floor?

Consortium Professional Recruitment are pleased to be partnering with an established food manufacturing business in East Yorkshire to recruit a Quality Assurance Manager. This is an opportunity to lead a dedicated team, influence site-wide quality standards and help shape a positive, proactive food safety culture.

Working within a fast-paced chilled food manufacturing environment, you'll combine practical technical expertise with supportive leadership. With approximately 80% of your time spent in manufacturing areas, you'll be close to the operation, building relationships and driving meaningful improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading and developing people: Manage, coach and support the factory QA team, ensuring effective shift coverage, clear responsibilities and opportunities for professional development.
  • Championing food safety: Maintain robust standards across HACCP, GMP, allergen management, hygiene, traceability and product integrity, ensuring compliance with legislation and customer requirements.
  • Driving continuous improvement: Analyse quality performance, investigate complaints and non-conformances, and work collaboratively to implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintaining audit readiness: Coordinate internal auditing activities, support retailer and third-party audits, and ensure Quality Management Systems remain effective and compliant.
  • Building strong partnerships: Work closely with Production, Hygiene, Engineering and Technical colleagues to resolve challenges, strengthen factory standards and promote shared accountability.

Your work will directly contribute to safer products, stronger operational performance, reduced waste and a quality-focused culture where colleagues feel supported to do their best work.

Requirements
  • Experience within Quality Assurance or Technical functions in food manufacturing, ideally within chilled food production.
  • A practical understanding of food safety legislation, HACCP, GMP, allergen management and quality risk assessment.
  • Experience of leading, coaching or developing colleagues, with the confidence to provide clear direction and constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, internal auditing, root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across operational teams.
  • Confidence in making balanced, risk-based decisions within a busy manufacturing environment.
  • Good organisational and IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience of BRCGS standards, retailer requirements or high-care manufacturing would be advantageous.
  • Qualifications in Food Science, Food Technology or a related discipline, alongside HACCP, Food Safety or auditing certifications, would also be welcomed.

Above all, we’re interested in your ability to make a positive impact. You don't need to meet every desirable requirement to be considered. If you have relevant food manufacturing experience, a collaborative approach and the motivation to develop others, we’d encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Package
  • Salary: £39,000 - £42,000 per annum
  • A permanent opportunity within an established food manufacturing environment.
  • A visible leadership position with the opportunity to influence quality standards and operational improvements.
  • The chance to develop a team, strengthen technical capability and contribute to long-term continuous improvement.

We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, experiences and career journeys who can demonstrate the skills and potential to succeed in this role.
