Job summary

James Lewis Recruitment is seeking a QA Manager for a London-based M&E contractor to ensure quality across mechanical and electrical installations, on-site inspections, and documentation that meets handover standards.

You’ll work with project managers, site managers and subcontractors, lead snagging, manage ITPs and NCRs from raise to close-out, and push for consistent quality across fit-out and building services projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in QA/QC within M&E building services.
• Ideally worked for an M&E contractor.
• Hands-on site inspections, quality checks and snagging.

Responsibilities

• Own quality across M&E installations, ensuring works meet specs, drawings and approved materials.
• Carry out regular site inspections and quality checks across mechanical and electrical installations.
• Lead snagging and ensure defects are identified, tracked and closed out before handover.
• Manage ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans) and NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) across projects from raising to close-out.
• Ensure works are properly inspected and documented, including test records, check sheets and handover documentation.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Site Managers and subcontractors to maintain quality without slowing delivery.
• Challenge poor workmanship and incomplete paperwork with clear direction on standards.
• Report on quality performance and status to management.
• Drive consistent quality standards across commercial fit-out, refurbishment and building services.

QA Manager

London | M&E Contractor | Perm

This is a QA role for someone who makes sure M&E installations are done right, inspected properly and documented to a standard that stands up at handover.

Our client is an established M&E contractor delivering mechanical and electrical installations across commercial fit-out, refurbishment and building services projects. They take quality seriously and want someone who can make sure it shows on every job.

The role is focused on ensuring M&E installations are completed correctly, meet project specifications and are properly inspected and documented. This is not a desk-based paperwork role. You'll be out on site, working alongside the project teams and subcontractors, and trusted to spot problems early and get them fixed.

What you'll do

• Own quality across M&E installations, making sure works are completed correctly and meet project specifications, drawings and approved materials.
• Carry out regular site inspections and quality checks across mechanical and electrical installations, picking up issues early rather than at handover.
• Lead snagging, making sure defects are identified, tracked and closed out before they become bigger problems.
• Manage ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans) and NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) across projects, from raising through to close-out.
• Make sure works are properly inspected and documented, including test records, check sheets and handover documentation.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and subcontractors to maintain quality standards on site without slowing delivery.
• Challenge poor workmanship and incomplete paperwork, and give site teams clear direction on what good looks like.
• Report on quality performance, recurring issues and close-out status to project and senior management.
• Help drive consistent quality standards and processes across commercial fit-out, refurbishment and building services projects.

What you'll need

• Experience in QA/QC within M&E building services.
• Ideally worked for an M&E contractor.
• A mechanical or electrical background, so you can judge the installation as well as the paperwork.
• Hands‑on experience with site inspections, quality checks and snagging.
• Good understanding of ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans), NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and handover documentation.
• Comfortable working with Project Managers, Site Managers and subcontractors, with the confidence to hold people to account.
• A good eye for detail and a practical, site‑based approach.
