Job summary

Matchtech is recruiting for a QC Engineer on the Hinkley Point C project in Somerset. This on-site role involves conducting inspections, quality surveillance, and NDT oversight in line with the Project Quality Plan and ITPs.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will validate welding procedures, review Lifetime Records, audit subcontractors, and ensure fabrication meets stringent nuclear specifications, with strong emphasis on auditable documentation and site QA processes.

Qualifications

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification is the minimum requirement.
  • PCN Level 2 Certifications in MPI, UT, or RI are highly desirable.
  • Formal qualifications in Quality Assurance, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and ensure adherence to the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and ITPs at site.
  • Review welding procedures, qualification records and NDT to meet code and contract standards.
  • Verify calibration of test equipment to comply with project standards.
  • Conduct final reviews of fabrication, assembly and quality documentation for client submission.
  • Document control: issue quality documentation for client review and approval.
  • Maintain SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person) records for project personnel.
  • Audit work packages, suppliers and sub-contractors; raise NCRs and drive corrective actions.
  • Manage Approved Supplier List documentation and supplier quality questionnaires.
  • Interface with site managers, sub-contractors and client representatives to ensure quality is integrated with construction.

About the Opportunity:

This role is based directly on-site at the landmark Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project in Somerset.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the QC Engineer will conduct inspections, quality surveillance, and non-destructive testing (NDT) oversight in strict accordance with the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs). You will play a vital role in validating welding procedures, reviewing Lifetime Records (LTRs), auditing sub-contractors, and ensuring all fabrication and mechanical works comply with rigorous nuclear specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control, Inspections & Testing
  • Plan Implementation: Ensure the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are written, aligned with project requirements, and rigorously implemented across site activities.

  • Welding & NDT Surveillance: Review and verify that welding procedures, qualification records, and non-destructive testing meet code and contractual standards.

  • Equipment Verification: Review test and calibration equipment to guarantee full compliance with project and company standards.

Documentation, Certification & LTRs
  • Lifetime Records (LTRs): Conduct final reviews of all fabrication, assembly, and quality documentation prior to formal submission to the main client.

  • Document Control: Issue required quality documentation to Document Control for formal client review and approval.

  • Personnel Competency Files: Collate and maintain up-to-date SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person) records for project personnel.

Supply Chain, Audits & Non-Conformance
  • Auditing & NCRs: Conduct internal and external audits of work packages, suppliers, and sub-contractors. Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), analyse root causes, and ensure timely closure.

  • Approved Supplier List: Maintain and evaluate documentation for the Approved Supplier Listing, reviewing quality questionnaires and supporting compliance records.

  • Stakeholder Interface: Act as a key quality interface, liaising directly with sub-contractors, site managers, and client representatives to ensure quality processes run concurrently with construction progress.

Candidate Profile:
Qualifications & Technical Certifications
  • CSWIP 3.1: Minimum requirement (Welding Inspector certification).

  • PCN Level 2 Certifications: Qualifications in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), or Radiographic Interpretation (RI) are highly desirable.

  • Education & Training: Formal qualifications in Quality Assurance, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Requirements & Experience
  • Welding Procedures: Advanced working knowledge of modern welding procedures, joint specifications, and NDT techniques within high-integrity industrial environments.

  • Quality Management Systems: Proven experience conducting quality surveillance, site audits, and managing NCR processes on major industrial or infrastructure projects.

  • Documentation Rigour: Demonstrated track record of managing Lifetime Records (LTRs), quality packages, and supplier compliance files.

  • Industry Sector: Background in nuclear, power generation, heavy piping, or high-hazard regulated industries is strongly preferred.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively across site managers, sub-contractors, and client representatives.

  • Detail-Oriented: Exceptional precision and thoroughness when reviewing complex fabrication, NDT, and quality documentation.
