Job summary

Hernshead Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a QA Engineer to support an ongoing industrial project on a site-based contract. You will oversee electrical installation quality, review drawings and ITPs, and manage non-conformances in a heavy engineering environment.

The role requires strong BS7671 knowledge, experience inspecting installations (SWA cabling, containment, glanding, termination), and the ability to work long hours with overtime and weekend rotas.

Qualifications

• Proven QA/QC engineering experience in industrial/electrical/heavy engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of electrical installation and testing.
• Knowledge of BS7671 and electrical installation standards.
• Experience reviewing ITPs and QA documentation.
• Experience inspecting electrical installations (SWA cabling, containment, glanding, termination).
• Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
• Attention to detail with methodical QA approach.
• 2391 I&T qualification is a plus.
• Relevant electrical/engineering qualifications and site experience.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing and inspecting electrical installation works to ensure they meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Reviewing electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and installation documentation.
• Carrying out quality inspections and checks throughout the installation process.
• Ensuring electrical installations comply with BS7671 and project standards.
• Reviewing and verifying Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and QA documentation.
• Checking testing and inspection records, including test certificates.
• Identifying, recording and managing snags, defects and non-conformances.
• Collaborating with electricians, supervisors, engineers and project management to resolve quality issues.
• Maintaining accurate QA/QC records and ensuring documentation is completed correctly.
• Supporting handover by ensuring installations are inspected, tested and documented.
• Ensuring all works align with site health & safety procedures.
• Working 10-hour days with overtime and every other weekend.

About this Position:

This is a long-term contract role offering consistent hours, overtime opportunities, and weekend work on a rotational basis. The role will be site-based, overseeing the quality and compliance of electrical installation works within an industrial environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Carrying out quality inspections and checks throughout the installation process.
• Ensuring electrical installations are completed in line with relevant BS7671 requirements and project standards.

Experience Required:

• Proven experience working as a QA/QC Engineer within an industrial, electrical or heavy engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical installation and testing.
• Good knowledge of BS7671 and electrical installation standards.
• Experience reviewing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality documentation.
• Experience inspecting electrical installations, including SWA cabling, containment, glanding and termination.
• Experience identifying and managing non-conformances, defects and snags.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to quality assurance.
• 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification would be highly advantageous.
• Relevant electrical/engineering qualifications and site experience.
• Ability to work long hours and commit to weekend overtime when required.
