Job summary

Vertus Partners in London is seeking a Python Engineer to build reliable data services for buy-side trading and investment workflows. You will own systems used across the front and middle office, improving how complex financial data is processed, validated and delivered, while remaining hands-on and technically demanding.

The Role:

This is a hands-on engineering position within a well-established buy-side business, building reliable data services that sit close to investment and operational workflows.

You will take ownership of systems used across the front and middle office, improving how complex financial data is processed, controlled and delivered. The work is technically demanding, commercially relevant and visible across the business, without being a purely support-led role.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Design and build scalable Python services for business-critical financial data.
• Improve the processing and distribution of instrument, transaction and position information.
• Automate workflows that currently require manual intervention or operational oversight.
• Develop dependable intraday and scheduled data pipelines for a range of internal users.
• Strengthen validation, monitoring and controls across production systems.
• Work directly with technical and business stakeholders to turn loosely defined requirements into robust software.
• Contribute to automated testing, deployment processes and ongoing platform reliability.

What You Bring:

• Strong Python engineering skills, including sound judgement around architecture and software design.
• Practical experience working with SQL and relational databases.
• A track record of building dependable systems in a data-intensive or high-throughput environment.
• Good understanding of testing, continuous integration and controlled software delivery.
• The ability to investigate data or production issues methodically and improve the underlying system, rather than applying short-term fixes.
• Clear communication skills and confidence working with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with financial markets, transaction processing or investment data would be useful, but is not essential.
• Exposure to another object-oriented language would be helpful, although Python is the core requirement.
