Job summary

Intelect UK LTD is seeking a PUWER Engineer to perform inspections, assessments and compliance activities under PUWER 1998. You will ensure machinery is safe, compliant and fit for purpose across clients in the UK, while supporting modifications and safety improvements.

The successful candidate will have an engineering qualification, PUWER knowledge, and experience inspecting industrial equipment, with strong reporting, drawing interpretation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related discipline.
• Good knowledge of PUWER 1998 and machinery safety.
• Experience inspecting industrial machinery or manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and technical docs.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel to client sites and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PUWER inspections on a wide range of machinery and work equipment.
• Assess machinery against PUWER 1998 and associated standards.
• Identify hazards, non-conformities, and areas requiring corrective action.
• Produce detailed inspection reports with clear recommendations and risk-based findings.
• Provide practical advice to clients on achieving PUWER compliance.
• Assess machinery guarding, safety devices, emergency stops, control systems, electrical safety, and operator protection measures.
• Liaise professionally with customers, explaining inspection findings and recommending suitable improvements.
• Work with internal engineering teams to support machinery modifications and compliance projects where required.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, photographs, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and relevant legislation.
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation, British Standards, and industry best practice.
• Travel to customer sites throughout the UK as required.
• Promote a positive health and safety culture at all times.
