Candour Talent Ltd is seeking a Health & Safety Compliance Specialist (PUWER) in the Ebbw Vale area. The role focuses on ensuring PUWER compliance throughout the lifecycle of work equipment, from specification to decommissioning, and reducing risk across the site.

The successful candidate will have strong PUWER knowledge, a solid health and safety background in a manufacturing or regulatory setting, and the ability to implement a structured compliance programme with robust records management.

Qualifications

• Experience in health and safety within manufacturing or regulatory contexts.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist PUWER guidance across equipment lifecycle including specification, design, procurement and maintenance.
• Identify PUWER gaps and coordinate corrective actions with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams.
• Act as point of contact for PUWER matters to maintain a safe working environment and prevent non-compliance.
• Develop and maintain a structured PUWER compliance programme with records and test results.

After a period of sustained growth and major investment, our client is looking for a Health & Safety Compliance Specialist (PUWER) to join their team in the Ebbw Vale area. It is an exciting time to join the company, and this role comes with long-term security and growth opportunities.

The Role

• Provide specialist advice and practical support throughout the lifecycle of work equipment, from specification, design, and procurement through to installation, commissioning, use, modification, maintenance, and decommissioning.
• Identify and address PUWER compliance gaps, and work with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure that appropriate corrective measures are completed and prioritised to control risks associated with work equipment.
• Act as a key point of contact for PUWER matters, supporting the business in maintaining a safe working environment, applying relevant British, European, and international standards applicable to machinery and work equipment, and reducing the risk of accidents, enforcement action, equipment failure, and legal non-compliance.
• Develop, implement, and maintain a structured PUWER compliance programme across the company, maintaining accurate records of assessments, inspections, actions, test results, and other compliance information.

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience working within a Health & Safety, engineering, maintenance, compliance, manufacturing, or regulatory environment.
• Practical understanding of PUWER 1998 and its application to work equipment and machinery.
• Experience undertaking or supporting machinery/work equipment risk assessments, and strong understanding of the hierarchy of control.
• Ability to interpret technical information, equipment documentation, drawings, and relevant standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT skills, including the ability to maintain compliance records and databases.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent recognised health and safety qualification.
• IOSH membership or relevant IOSH qualification.
• Engineering qualification or demonstrable engineering experience.
• Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other relevant UK health and safety legislation.
• Knowledge of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, where relevant to the company's activities.
• Understanding of relevant British/European machinery safety standards.
• Experience conducting internal audits or regulatory compliance assessments.
