Job summary

Seymour John Ltd. is seeking a proactive Purchasing & Stores Controller in Telford to manage purchasing, stores and stock control within a dynamic workshop environment.

You will place orders, liaise with suppliers, and ensure timely deliveries while maintaining stock accuracy and supporting continuous improvements in inventory management.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in purchasing, stores, warehouse or stock control.
• Confidence raising purchase orders and communicating with suppliers.
• Strong attention to detail with a diligent and methodical approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing process, place orders with suppliers and monitor deliveries.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers and act as main point of contact for updates.
• Oversee day-to-day running of the stores function, ensure stock is received, stored and issued.
• Maintain stock levels and reordering to avoid shortages.
• Investigate stock discrepancies and improve stock accuracy across the business.
• Coordinate deliveries, returns and shipments, including UK and international consignments.
• Work with engineering, production and workshop teams to ensure materials are available.
• Produce stock reports and maintain accurate system information.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across purchasing, stores and inventory management.
• Help maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment.

Purchasing & Stores Controller | Telford | Office Based | Permanent | 08:00-16:00 | Full Time Hours | Competitive Salary + Benefits Package

Seymour John are currently recruiting for a Purchasing & Stores Controller on behalf of a well-established organisation in Telford. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on individual with experience across purchasing, stores or warehouse operations who enjoys working in a varied and fast-paced environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will play a key role in ensuring materials, components and stock are available when needed to support engineering and workshop operations.

• Managing the purchasing process, placing orders with suppliers and monitoring deliveries to ensure materials arrive on time
• Building strong relationships with suppliers and acting as the main point of contact for order updates, queries and delivery schedules
• Overseeing the day-to-day running of the stores function, ensuring stock is accurately received, stored and issued
• Maintaining stock levels and proactively reordering key consumables and materials to avoid shortages
• Investigating stock discrepancies and helping to improve stock accuracy across the business
• Coordinating deliveries, returns and shipments, including arranging transportation for both UK and international consignments
• Working closely with engineering, production and workshop teams to ensure materials and components are available when required
• Producing stock reports and maintaining accurate system information to support operational decision-making
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across purchasing, stores and inventory management processes
• Helping to maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment

We are looking for candidates to have:

• Previous experience within purchasing, stores, warehouse or stock control
• Confidence raising purchase orders and communicating with suppliers
• Strong attention to detail with a diligent and methodical approach
• Good IT skills, including working knowledge of Excel
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• A proactive, hands-on attitude and the ability to work independently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A full UK driving licence
• Forklift truck experience
