Job summary

Alternative Heat Ltd in Banbridge Head Office is seeking a commercially astute Purchasing Manager to lead procurement and ensure materials and services are sourced cost-effectively, on time and to required quality.

You will develop purchasing strategies across key materials, build strong relationships with mills and suppliers, drive negotiations, manage supplier performance and oversee stockholding, inventory and risk.

Who are we looking for?

A commercially strong procurement professional who enjoys ownership and influence. Someone who can build strong supplier relationships, negotiate effectively and use market intelligence to make informed purchasing decisions.

A strategic thinker who understands the importance of value, risk and delivery. You'll have the opportunity to shape procurement strategy across key materials including steel pipe, welded fittings, blast grit and paint.

Someone who enjoys variety and collaboration, working closely with Commercial, Finance, Production and Project teams to ensure materials are available at the right price, quality and time.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Commercial, Commercial Buyer, Finance, Production and Project teams, as well as mills, manufacturers and strategic suppliers.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring our manufacturing operations have the materials they need to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

What You'll be Doing

Lead the procurement function, ensuring materials and services are sourced cost-effectively, on time and to the required quality standards. Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with project and production requirements, while building strong relationships with steel mills, suppliers and key stakeholders to secure competitive commercial terms. Lead negotiations, manage supplier performance and supply chain risks, and oversee stockholding and inventory strategies to balance availability, cash flow and operational efficiency. Monitor market trends, including steel prices, tariffs, duties and currency movements, and ensure imported materials comply with all customs and regulatory requirements. Lead project procurement activities, ensuring material availability, certification and traceability, while acting as the key escalation point for supply chain issues and supporting the development of the Commercial Buyer. Drive continuous improvement through effective procurement processes and optimisation of the MRP system, while managing budgets, monitoring expenditure and providing regular reporting on costs, savings opportunities and supply chain risks.
